Project Eternity secures 50K backers, adds new dungeon, stretch goals, and rewards

Project Eternity’s crowd funding campaign is proving a major success, with Obsidian busily adding new content to its plans for the RPG in response to fan support.

In a Kickstarter update, Obsidian detailed a brand new dungeon, The Endless Paths of Od Nua, which will be added to the game in response to reaching 50,000 backers.

The drive has brought in over $2.2 million, and Obsidian has had to announce a new stretch goal; at $2.4 million, crafting and enchanting will be added to the game, allowing players to create their own equipment.

Two further reward updates have been added, too; by adding a set amount to your existing pledge and reward tier, you’ll be able to purchase a beta key or digital strategy guide.

The developer is also soon to launch a PayPal donation system so would-be backers without access to Kickstarter can get in on the action.

Project Eternity is hailed as a successor to beloved CRPGs like Fallout, Planescape: Torment, Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale, made by some of the same veteran talent who produced those classics.

This is shaping up to be one of the greatest RPGs ever made. I have a feeling it’ll not only live upto the old Infinity Engine games, but even surpass them.

The Kickstarter has already been a great success, however I really hope they can go beyond $3 million and maybe even reach $4 million. Not just for the sake of a better game, but also to really emphasise that there’s still an strong audience for oldschool computer RPGs. ~ An audience that’s fed up with modern RPGs sacrificing depth and complexity for greater accessibility, fancier visuals, fully voiced dialogue, etc. etc.
