Borderlands 3 already being planned, says lead writer – Report

Monday, 1st October 2012 11:48 GMT By Dave Cook

Borderlands 3 is already being brainstormed according to Gearbox Software’s lead writer Anthony Burch.

File this one under ‘approach with caution’ for now, as details are thin on the ground. MP1st reports that Burch revealed on the recent instalment of the ‘The Totally Rad Show’ his team was already thrashing out ideas for Borderlands 3.

That’s it. Hardly Earth-shattering considering how well Borderlands 2 has performed at retail so far. Would you like even more Borderlands? Let us know below.

1 a year now? Like every other big franchise?

I was hoping for a next gen release too.

I can’t wait to see what already out dated references they can cram pointlessly into it.

Its funny because you’ve seen it on the internets you see. Humour!

Well they started work on 2 soon after the first shipped, so I don’t think it’s a surprise they are already thinking about a third. Will still probably be 3 years away at this point tho.

Who said anything about a year from now? They are only brainstorming ideas of what it could be, where to take it, that sort of thing. I’m sure we won’t see Borderlands 3 for at LEAST 2 years, if not more.

It was more speculation. Every other big franchise seems to be getting yearly updates. With the success of BL2, it wouldn’t Suprise me to see another one next year

This game isnt going to come out for atleast 2 years the way Gearbox is this will go on the back-burner and get concepted, written and the like while they turn the brunt of the studio onto the the next game out the door, Is that the Aliens game or the Furious Four game?

    Not every other franchise…
Even if you only count the extremely successful franchises, it still isn’t all.

@8 I believe they have different teams for this. The bulk of Borderlands 2′s team will be on DLC duty at least a year (The last DLC is said to release in sumer 2013). The next full game release form Gearbox is however Aliens: CM.

I lost interest at the start of the first one.

    A so-so shooter and a so-so rpg.

What an idiot this Burch, I mean its no surprise, because on the Gearbox Forums they already asked what we want in the next game. But talking in his videos about videogame stuff, but story didn’t rocked in BL2. Nice.

I don’t understand why devs do this! Even if they are thinking of the sequel keep you trap shut because it makes people wonder if they should even buy the latest one or just wait for the next.

I’m not sure I would tbh. If it wasn’t for the Gunzerker class I would have stopped playing. It’s seriously monotonous in SP.

Plus its not that crazy. It’s Serious Sam or Timesplitters with bad language.

And if they didn’t make a sequel, then you’d have an entirely new set of gamers crying for that. Hello Episode 3!

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

There’s plenty of room for improvement with Borderlands 2, and if they’ve proved anything just now, it’s that they know how to improve on their darlings.

I think that’s pretty encouraging. Hopefully Borderlands 3 will have less filler and more thriller.

to everyone who said borderlands wasnt all that great, and was a so so shooter, you are alone on that one. . All i can say is this : 2012 VGA, best shooter award goes to borderlands 2. Best multiplayer award goes to Borderlands 2. Best male character award goes to Borderlands 2 for handsome jack. Character of the year award goes to borderlands 2 for Claptrap. Idk what else to say. The people have spoken. And Borderlands goes on to sweep the VGAs.

They need to make borderlands 3 100% they left borderlands 2 off with a cliff hanger when there’s all the other vaults. They should make you able to travel between different worlds so that the game doesn’t end too quickly. They still will need the siren, commando, gunzerker, and assassin classes but they should definitely have new, mind-blowing skills. ex: the assassin should have a short teleport ability, the commando should have a controllable turret, the siren should be able to have some sort of 5 second invincibility skill or able to make an explosion using eridium, and the gunzerker should be able to use for 10 seconds… a minigun rocket launcher but is immune to damage on his back. They should have the same type of weapons, just different designs and there should be a place to upgrade certain weapons and add abilities to them with certain items found throughout the game like +5 damage or +2.3 scope zoom. The main characters, they should keep Mordecai, Brick, Lilith, tiny Tina, and Crazy Earl, but they should add some new ones like for example: Argon, the Hyperion president or Reese, the leader of the rebellion on Prancidore and others. Im giving good ideas for the next one i mean seriously do i need to say anymore to help you guys out these are ideas that you guys can build off of to help.
