Blizzard honour sightless WoW player and his guild-mate

The story about two special World of Warcraft players made its way across the Internet in January. Hexu, an enhancement shaman played by British soldier Ben Shaw, isn't your average gamer. Shaw was on duty in Iraq when a roadside bomb left him completely blind. Remarkably, he has continued to play WoW, and has been rewarded by Blizzard for doing so.

Shaw's character is aided by Davidian, a Death Knight played by a Scotsman named Owen. Davidian uses a series of macros through his and Scot's machines to perform a guide's role for the soldier. Hexu is able to raid, repair, and kill with the help of his buddy.

Blizzard has now honoured the two with in-game items. "Hexu's Amplifying Helm" and "Davidian's All-Seeing Eyes" offer tribute to the work of both men. The description on both items is equally heart-warming, as "A man with a friend is never without vision" and "Sharp enough to see for two men" appear.

A lovely way to kick-off Friday.

Cheers Joystiq.
