MGS Social Ops dev: ‘PC format will disappear, merge with smartphone’
Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops developer GREE delivered the keynote address at this year’s Tokyo Games Show, along with the message that the lines between PCs and smartphones are blurring, before laying out its vision of the industry’s future.
GI.biz reports that GREE CEO Yoshikazu Tanaka said in his keynote address, “The line between PC and mobile has blurred, and that’s a trend for this year. The traditional PC will disappear, and smartphone and PC will converge to become a new platform.”
GREE is fast becoming a known name in the West for its development of Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops, but it has been a major player within the lucrative social games market in Japan.
Tanaka added that localised studios – such as Kojima Productions recently-opened LA operation and Level-5′s American studio – will become a vital tool for any publisher looking to become a prominent force in the industry.
“In three years time,” he theorised, “local development of games will be bigger. That’s why we engage in worldwide development activities. Global participation will help us come up with new ideas.”
What do you think about PCs and smartphones converging? What would that look like? Let us know below.

So a developer who knows fuck all about PC gaming, makes a sweeping statement? You need to laugh really at the lengths these tossers will go to just to promote a dying series of sub standard games – on ANY format.

I think he is overstating things. But he might have it partily right. Lest in that some games couldbe on both platforms and that mobile may out sell traditional PC. But in order for that to happen, really, mobile need mini hdmi to hdmi output to HDTVs, and be able to pick up 2.4ghz wireless pads. And I think that day is coming and soon.
But I highly doubt PC gaming is going anywhere.

He is not a dev, please do some search before posting misleading news, Yoshikazu Tanaka is widely known as the founder of GREE the biggest social game company in the world and one of the richest men in Japan but he is not releated to MSG or game development by any mean, please change the title to “GREE CEO”
