Borderlands 2 out now: review scores here
Borderlands 2 reviews are pouring in, with a very heavy emphasis around the nine region, a few spikes in the ten, and one notable blow to the 7.5 crotch.

The shooter-RPG hybrid’s has first review appeared in the latest issue of GamesMaster. The print review bestowed a whopping 95% score on Gearbox’s sprawling sequel; CVG published some choice quotes from the piece.
The article stated, “Bigger. Ballsier. Bullet-ier. Borderlands 2 is the antidote to stuffy military shooters”, and called it , “The prettiest game of 2012″ The review also praised four-player co-op mode, as well as the game’s improved weapons and combat.
Atomic Gamer and G4 have both awarded a perfect score, with the generally more critical Destructoid trailing at 8.5 and Polygon proving the harshest critic so far at 7.5 – not even a “h8 out of ten”, as they say. Lets have another rousing fight about reviews, shall we?
The embargo has now lifted. Borderlands 2 is arguably the first major release of the holiday season, so it’s sure to be reviewed everywhere: let the avalanche begin.

Mmm, I can’t imagine it being a 95% game, but it is GamesMaster we’re talking about.

Bought the first one on steam sale a few months back and was amazed how much I loved it.
Never interested me at all but what a great game.
This is another one to add to the backlog!

Gamesmaster isn’t exactly a bastion of solid journalism.
I’ll wait for the Edge, Gametrailers and EG reviews.

That sounds damn good, cause i for one am beyond sick and tired of military shooters. I do wonder if the story is there this time around though. Cause we all know how little story there was in the first one. It never bothered me, but i have a few friends who really hated that.

I really-really-really loved the first one. Got 1500/1750 there on Xbox (except for the Claptrap Revolution DLC). Even downloaded it via PS+ free deal and now rebeating it again.
The second one is just like one of the most anticipated games this autumn (with ACIII & BO2).

So you are gonna complete a 100 hour long game in two days?? I have got to say that is really impressive! Especially considering there are only 48 hours in two days…

@11 Don’t be jealous.
If you gotta know though, i meant i was generally just going to go through the game, as much as i can, and bleed the weekend into next week finishing the rest.

I think it’s pretty obvious that Borderlands is an acquired taste. Either people hate it, or they love it. I think it’s very good at what it does though.
@6 You don’t need a better story, you just need to shoot more bullets!
@11 What are you talking about? My most recent playthrough of Borderlands took exactly 11 hours.

Gearbox has actually hired writers for Borderlands 2 and have said the story is now actually in the game in the original it was actually the designers who wrote the story along with the employees doing most of the VA work. Because the success of the original they were to get a bigger budget to hire more employees which allows them to do more with Blands 2.

I did like this game a lot, and i played with out co-op, heck i did love also the cover, and if the cover is any indication, this game will rock too, what a way to improve the previous cover, kudos to the designer.

The issue is out, and so is our Borderlands 2 review. Hint: It’s higher than a 9.5 and lower than a 10.

I’m playing through the first right now (thanks Playstation+), and absolutely love it (current rank at level 14). Can’t wait to play Borderlands 2, though I will have to wait a little longer because I gotta get the cash together for it.

@33, Is that OK to do with Steam? I’ll be honest I’ve always chickened out from doing that with anything on Steam. I have invested far too much to lose my account!
Origin though, meh. Wouldn’t lose that much.

Hm, I hadn’t thought about it. It’s probably ok? I’ve used it a few times to buy games while abroad (you can only buy from Steam if you’re connecting from the country of your billing address).
I remember with the Civ 5 release, you could VPN to the states to unlock it, the connect as normal.

Steam has no problem with using a VPN to unlock games early, I’ve done it multiple times over the course of about a year and a bit.

Except they can ban you permanently for doing it. Now i’ve never heard of them doing it, but they do reserve the right to do so. Although that would never hold in court here in Denmark. Just like their recent TOS changes won’t affect danish users ^^

@35, 36 & 38, Yeah I checked the forums and even the Steam mods say it would be breaking the ToS. So for now I think I will continue to live in fear of taking any risks that might jeopardise my account.

I’ve done it lots of times with no problems, including Steamworks multiplayer games.
I just don’t have that VPN anymore, sadly
Steam has no interest in keeping you from your games unless you’re compromising the service.

Errrm, Guardian – no score?
They’ve given 5 out of 5 stars. Right below this part:
Borderlands 2 – review
Xbox 360/PS3/PC; from £39.99; cert 18; Gearbox
Please correct it.

I don’t want to be a negative nancy but i’ve been watching a few Xbox 360 videos of the game and i don’t know. Graphically surprisingly enough it doesn’t impress me at all. I don’t remember the first Borderlands having low-res, almost i guess…washed out textures. But i do see that in this video. It certainly looks nothing like the first shots and videos they released.
Here take a look

The reviews need to redesign actually, the idea that most of the big games scores between 9-10 is getting laughable
And stupid, sometimes the game full of bugs and technical problems and then again it scores 10 or 9.
I didn’t say that Borderlands is bad game or anything but I don’t fell like the most of the games it deserve 10 or 9 !

I just got done with the tutorial and so far I’ll say this:
1) Claptrap is a lot funnier
2) The guns are way more awesome, responsive, and fun to shoot
3) The enemies are actually trying not to die
So far the only iffy thing is that the interface is so trippy it makes me seasick.
Overall I think it’s going to turn out to be a bigger, badder older brother to the original. It feels better in pretty much every important way.
I dont think you’re gonna love it if you hated the original, but it’s improved in every way.
