SWTOR high population server tech testing starts today

Thursday, 13th September 2012 20:53 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Star Wars: The Old Republic’s public testing server has been switched over by BioWare in preparation for the new Mega Servers the developer plans to implement into the game.

Duplicates of all the characters across the US East Coast have occurred.

“In order for us to successfully test this new tech, we need your help,” said BioWare in a post on the matter. “To facilitate your participation we have copied all characters from our East Coast servers to this temporary Public Test Server.

“If you have any characters on an East Coast server, you can now log in to this special Public Test Server, find your copied characters, and begin testing this important feature today, September 13th.”

All bugs should be reported on the Public Test Server Forum, said the firm.

If you are already testing Game Update 1.4 content on the regular Public Test Server, don’t worry: your characters will remain unaffected.

I wonder how they plan on making this work. I’ve seen mass lag and disconnecting on the fleets before with 250-280ish people there. Can’t imagine 2500-3000 on a fleet at once.

I havent experience lag on the fleet and if there was it could be a multitude of things, not enough bandwidth on your end, the instancing the engine uses which this looks like will be getting rid of. If a world has more than 50 player it creates a new instance much like DDO and LOTRO did. This seems to be removing that. It will be interesting to see.
