Star Wars The Old Republic: BioWare ‘committed to major update every 6 weeks’

Star Wars: The Old Republic developer BioWare Austin has set itself the goal of releasing a major update to its MMO every six weeks.

The game’s next update Terror From Beyond is looking substantial, and will gave players a lot of new content, marking a considerable effort fro the studio.

In an interview with AusGamers, BioWare Austin general manager Matt Bromberg laid out his team’s plans for The Old Republic update going forward.

“We’re committed to: about every six weeks, doing a major update for the game,” Bromberg explained, “which would be a new Warzone, a new Operation, a new Flashpoint, a new event — and to doing that on a really frequent cadence, every six weeks. So we’re going to stick to that.

“As well as the free-to-play launch, which is coming in the fall,” Bromberg continued, “we announced that subscribers who have lapsed are already qualified to get Cartel Coins, which will be the in-game currency in the game once free-to-play launches.

“So you get credit, not just for becoming a subscriber now, going forward, but also for all the time that you were a subscriber, you get more credits and more coin. So we’re hoping that that will encourage people to come back to the game and try it now,” Bromberg concluded.

Would the lure of regular content and a shift to F2P see you playing Star Wars: The Old Republic or possibly returning after leaving? Let us know below.

According to my maths, SWTOR has been out for about 38 weeks.

We should of had 6 updates by now, and they should be well on their way to a seventh.

Patch 1.4 has only just gotten to the public test servers, from which feedback was(is still?) regularly ignored and bugs are not fixed.

Might want to review your commitments Bioware. Coins will not earn my forgiveness.

I’ll definitely go back to playing this again. It’s only because of GW2 and other non-MMO games that I don’t have the time to play it right now.

More hollow promises. Its about time Bioware put their money where their mouth is.

You cant even really count 1.3 as it didnt bring any new content, just added stuff that should have been there at launch.
