Wikipad pre-orders open this week

WikiPad, an Android-powered device positioned as the first true gaming tablet, is slated to launch in the US some time in northern autumn, with pre-orders opening this week.

GameStop will begin accepting pre-orders for the device on September 7, which is tomorrow in those parts of the world where this information is pertinent.

There's no solid release date yet beyond the "autumn" window, but the tablet will go for $499 and pre-orders include some free games - again, to be detailed at a later date.

The Wikipad's claim to fame is its control-pad style shell, which is detachable. It sports a Tegra 3 processor, and supports Gaikai, Google Play and PlayStation Mobile, with more platforms to come.
