PS Plus, amazing… puts LIVE to shame in alot of ways…

@2 As far as providing content to customers, definitely.

I just wish they could match that with quality of service.

  4. Jaha-BRN

Double Dragon Neon is developed by Wayforward, still looks tacky but could play well.

PS Plus is fantastic value but it’s not comparable to Live. It’s something different. I would expect both to extend into similar services next generation though and be part of a subs model which subsidises the cost of the hardware.

Iam very interested in machinarium, i was waiting this game for some long time now, i will get some PSN cards in order to get it.

I agree with Doc and Mike.

I am a Plus member, love getting “free” games(not really free when your still paying 50usd/year). But it is a good value. Just the actual quality of the service isn’t at Live levels. Closer now then it ever used to be.

And, like Doc I think next gen we will see “service contracts” attached to both services in order to lower the cost of the hardware.

  10. DrDamn

Party chat, game invites integration, friends only chat for a start.

  11. Ireland Michael

    - Party Chat
    - Automatic game invites
    - Faster downloads
    - Trials for every downloadable game
    - Indie games service
    - Less intrusive patching
    - Less down time
    - Less dashboard updates

    #11 2 years ago
  12. Kuwabara

@ 10, sorry but for me party chat is for lazy casuals, and only takes away the immersion from single player games.
@11 less dashboard updates?? xbox has a new dashboard every dam month, lol.

everything else is pathetic. surely you can find something to do while patching in 5 mins.

on and psn has the better games. it has the better exclusives and the best of what xbox arcade has

LOL, no, no and hell no.

  14. Ireland Michael

@12 Just because you don’t have any use for it doesn’t mean that millions of other people don’t.

I use Party Chat so I can talk to people I know while I play games, because some of us actual like to socialize with people we know, and the vast majority of us don’t want to listen to squeaky voiced kids cursing down our ears either. How exactly is that “casual”? You’re just throwing around lazy insults to bolster your personal ego.

“less dashboard updates?? xbox has a new dashboard every dam month,”

    No, it doesn’t:

PSN gets updates constantly, and half the time they don’t even add anything. It gets tiresome quickly.

“surely you can find something to do while patching in 5 mins.”

There have been numerous games on the PS3 with giant, gigabyte sized patches, that I have had to sit around waiting to download for well over “5 mins”. And yes, I have a wired connection. A download of equal size on my 360 takes about 10 – 15 minutes, and are never part of mandatory patches.

“on and psn has the better games. it has the better exclusives and the best of what xbox arcade has”

Nobody is arguing the quality of the games. They’re arguing the quality of the service.

Both PSN and Xbox Live have a tonne of their own gems, exclusive to each other, they make both consoles worth owning for.

Thing is Kuwabara you said the big thing burried in there. Single Player game immersion. The days on sitting alone for hundreds of hours with some abscure niche title are long gone. Live does bring gamers closer together. Most gamers tend to play Multiplayer games. Chat is great for that, and to be honest, isn’t it kind of nerdy to worry about things like game immersion?

No offense intended, but really? The Dog, the phone, the cat, the kids, the dog chasing the cat, the neighbors, the piece of plastic your holding in your hand, your spouse, the couch/chair your sitting in, the window the TV next to, the shoes pinching your toes, the kids chasing the dog, the dinner you have to get started….etc and so on. Real life. The game is just a game. Real life goes on around you. If I stick on my turtle beach headset and sit down to a game and attempt to tune out the world, my house would prolly burn down around me.

So I am playing Blue Dragon, NCAA Footabll, or Amular, and at the sametime chatting with a family member or friend…where is the harm in that? I mean it also very much ok to not talk to said friend or family member, but yeah in the end the xross game party chat is a really nice thing to have that gets a ton of use by a lot of people.

It can be dismissed as no biggie or over rated, but really you would either be in the minority or just ignorant of how nice it can be…or just in denial.

I really like the feature. But to each their own.

As far as Sony Vs MS, no doubt the selling feature of Sony games are the strong sp games, and the xb is strong MP games. Of course both systems have games that do both. But connecting you to your friends and the games they are playing is something MS does extremly well.

How bout you stop being lazy and chat with your friends before or after playing. Do you realize there is a mic and video feature there? Why don’t you get on Home and socialize and meet people! And you don’t know you can mute people while playing online, so only you and your mates can be heard?!!

Psn does not get updates often> maybe once every few months. i see more articles here about dashboard updates than psn ones. The longest ive waited is probably 12 mins, and do you know what i did in that time? had lunch!

  17. Ireland Michael

@15 Not to mention that if do want to play a single player game on the 360, it’s not like you’re being forced into a Party Chat. The point of it is it’s usefulness when it *is* relevant.

  18. Da Man

on and psn has the better games. it has the better exclusives and the best of what xbox arcade has
Yeah, just this year we ‘ve had two of the biggest indie releases both exclusive to Xbla (Fez might go to unknown platform, likely Steam in the future). Not even half of the top Xbla games made it to Psn.

In addition to having both a bigger (having started six years ago) and better library you don’t have to wonder if the title gets released on the service or not.

  19. DrDamn

It was fairly clear from @12 that a reasonable response would be dismissed off hand. Gadzooks! had the level about right. I mean Home … seriously?

    @Mike agreed.

@16 “How bout you stop being lazy and chat with your friends before or after playing.”

    Many reasons.

    1) Half the time we’re playing multiplayer games together.
    2) The vast majority of my friends are fully grown adults with jobs, families and children. Spare time is an often sought but rarely provided luxury. We can’t just call over to each other and hang out whenever we want.
3)It’s easy and convenient. I’m a stay at home dad, but I know for a lot of people, after a hard days work, they simply can’t be bothered dealing with tedious activities like constantly muting obnoxious people in multiplayer games. And even then, that’s still not a private chat.

“Why don’t you get on Home and socialize and meet people”

    1) My time doesn’t permit it.
    2) Home is a cumbersome, tedious and ugly looking piece of shit.
    3) Every single time I have logged into it it’s exactly the same thing. Perverted men dancing around virtual avatars of women (mostly controlled by men), making lewd and obnoxious remarks. I see enough of that stupidity in real life.
    4) I have enough real friends that I don’t really feel the need to actively pursue online ones. I barely have enough time to spend with my offline ones.

@15, tell me then why don’t you use home. To me that’s a great feature that is better than party chat, in many ways. Also, i probably gain more from single player games than you. I can’t sit there and play a game while theres people around me, animals , noise.. any kind of noise throws me off. When i play alone im drawn into a game and i feel part of it. So to me party chat is useless. To me it’s stupid, for example playing ground zeroes, the game and atmosphere looking amazing, your drawn in, and suddenly your talking to buddies while playing.. why?? do you really need to tell them how cool it looks or how the day was, you cant do that before playing or after it.

No it ain’t nerdy, the idea of party chat seems beyond nerdy. Try sitting there by yourself and play a great single player game. have you ever been immersed? What’s this world coming to, it’s a gaming console!

1.There no party chat on ps3 but when i play multiplayer i can chat with my mates!
    2. Have you ever heard of a cell phone? or chatting face to face, video, which is better than audio?
    3. you heard of mute?

And about home? you obviously don’t know how to use the thing. Tell me why is it so popular, ? why do both girls and guys like to use it? It’s easy to ignore the perves, and theres alot of shit you can do there. you can do your on party chat there privately.. Some people like the environments or scenery there, or the plenty of free games available. Alot of people would rather chat and see something visually rather than over audio. i know people who have become friends there and met up in real life, but that’s another thing.

Also Michael, do you know what game immersion is? when you play hitman next or far cry , or dishonored, are you actually going to want to chat while playing it? you can go ahead and do it, but every time you do that, some immersion will be lost. You might not care, but to me it’s a stupid use in single player games.

  23. Ireland Michael

@22 Party Chat is not for single player gaming.

You’re deliberately dismissing half it’s purpose simply because it doesn’t fit into *your* bubble of convenience.

#22 Is not a serious comment, that much should be obvious.

so party chat is for multiplayer? how is it that i can chat with my mates on ps3 online games. What is the ps3 missing when it comes to multiplayer?

Some amazingly in-depth analysis there, second only to instruction manuals.

  27. lexph3re

I think its funny how dismissive everyone is of eachothers personal opinions. Jeez relax.Lol i have been using party chat on my vita and i dosee where people enjoy it but i would never go as far as saying its the truth. I talk to my friends then as soon as a game starts everything goes quiet. Pretty much makes the social aspect null and void.

As for the download speeds must be a slow connection on your end ireland because i have turbo boosted internet and a gig download takes about 15 minutes everything under that is practically halved.

  28. Kuwabara

@18, fez, really.. it will eventually come to ps3, not that i’d care or call it great. The majority of titles on arcade is rubbish. Psn has the best of them, braid, limbo, castle crashers and others. What does arcade have from psn’s side? nothing, probably joe danger. But none of arcades exclusives compare to the best of what psn has.

  29. Da Man

You keep telling yourself that, Kuwa. In the same way Resistance is better than Halo.

    #29 2 years ago
  30. Kuwabara

@29, lol. Maybe you should play resistance. Underated. Halo, over rated, except number 1. but i wont say one is better than the other. I will say halo 3 gave me motion sickness and had terrible design.

  31. Da Man

Okay. Aside from the playlists, the Forge, Theater and the AI (everything that is).

#28 I will say from an avid gamer perspective, both have great exclusives on the arcade front, XBLA has minecraft, both trials, dust, shadow complex, ITSP(shadow planet in short), etc, and sony has journey, machinarium, flower, hamilton adventures, fat princess, wipeout, etc, therefore in games i think they are pretty close, neck to neck, but just for the create incentive the XBLA has with games like dust, i think in my eyes they have a little bit of edge here, but like i said in games they are pretty close.

As for who has the best service, for me they are pretty even too in that regard, i dont mind chatting that much, heck i dont even use the mic that often, just in battlefield 3 in PSN, and it works, well sometimes but that is for the human aspect, not the tech, therefore they are pretty even, although i grant i pay for LIVE and not for plus, but for me there is not that much of a difference.

The only thing i criticize Sony, in the digital front, was the took of the Other OS issue, the rest i have dont qualms about it.
p.s and i pay for live just to have the gold discounts and access to XBLA games, and to play FPS multiplayer games like Halo, but not for the chat.
