WarZ gameplay looks like it was grabbed from a zombie survival title
Some WarZ footage popped out of PAX, showing the DayZ competitor looking a bit like a slower take on the whole survive-in-the-zombie-apocalypse-again thing. There’s little more to say. You walk round a wood trying not to die. If you haven’t completely, totally and utterly had enough of zombies at this point, you can look forward to an autumn launch.

The idea for this game rose from pure greed. “Oh hey, look this DayZ mod is a success, this not so cash-oriented guy could make moneys. nevemind mate, we will do this for you, we a not so good rip-off”

State of Decay looks like another ‘Z too’ copycat. Maybe with a bit more depth in the base building and RPG elements and pawns.
The whole zombie craze really has run its course though.

TBH they already said it in an interview or something that they were doing things differently but when they saw DayZ they went and redo many stuff. So, you’re right it’s a rip-off. But DayZ guy is also going for this direction with his standalone DayZ game.

I’d be happy to see the DayZ concept done in an engine that actually supports the gameplay.
I’m not sure that ArmA 3 will. It’s too late in development.

This developer was being created before Day Z and they created their own assets, engine, mechanics to make this game. If its a rip off then they are doing a lot of extra work to rip off a mod.
I can’t wait for this game it looks so much better than Day Z.

@1 Check your facts… DayZ was released 4 months ago. Do you honestly think this standalone game with it’s own engine/textures was made in the 4 months since DayZ has been out (or less since it gains popularity at the beginning of summer). The guys at The War Z saw the success of the DayZ mod and were like “Oh… we are making a game that’s exactly like that! Awesome! People will love our game too!”
Please, don’t try discrediting legitimate developers of amazing games, both DayZ and War Z developers. Neither one copied each other, but both reached a similar conclusion that there was a genre gap in the zombie survival with an open world (Dead Island COULD be part of this, but it was too scripted to be truly an Open world).
There is room for BOTH games… just how there is room for games like Call of Duty which seems to be the same rehash of the same game over and over. There can be TWO open world zombie survival games because that will make both the games better by seeing what the other game is doing right/wrong.
Ultimately, I’m excited for both games… the WarZ looks good, but DayZ’s standalone has yet to be seen (hopefully we get an entirely new world too…)

@8 copied the quote from the last published article about WarZ:
“As we saw the popularity of [ArmA 2 mod] DayZ grow, and how players and the community were reacting, we realized two things – first, there was validation that our idea of making a zombie MMO was actually right and that there is a market/player base for it, and second, we decided to abandon the idea of unlocking parts of the map as you progress – rather, the player will be able to freely roam the world and gather information and quests by exploring notes, diaries, etc left behind by both real players and NPCs.”
So, they in fact borrow some of the ideas from DayZ, they clearly said it themselves. And it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing.

I think the basic wisdom there, is that people love a sandbox. I don’t think that’s unique to DayZ at all. The OFP-series was built on it.

Those of you thinking they just copied DayZ mod because it was successful are dumb, just smacking your lips about stuff you have no clue about.
The game was already being developed before DayZ alpha was released. Like Gwyn quoted, they did however take some things that are successful in DayZ and used them in their own game. There isn’t a game, especially MMO that doesn’t do that.
Here is a thought: If you don’t like it, you can always play DayZ, and if you don’t like DayZ, you can play this. If you don’t like either, well buy a 360 for State of Decay. Personally I think DayZ is crap, it is glorified team deathmatch. The Zombies in it are crap with terrible AI and Pathing and it just isn’t very fun, with that said, I know it is in Alpha, so I will judge it when the standalone is released.
