Final Fantasy Monsters discussed, Square to reveal series' future 'soon'

Final Fantasy 25th anniversary celebrations are still ongoing. Developer Square-Enix discussed the future of the series in a panel session last night, and teased some kind of reveal on the horizon.

The panel session toyed with the idea of a Final Fantasy Monsters game, similar to Dragon Quest Monsters series on Nintendo DS. Director of the Dissida series Mitsunori Takahashi revealed that if it happens, he'd like to see a young Barrett from Final Fantasy 7 play the lead.

Square-Enix also responded to a fan question by saying it would be up for exploring a Final Fantasy game stylised in a similar vein to the Persona series, with a traditionally Japanese aesthetic.

Finally, the developer panel discussed the progress of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, followed by Final Fantasy Type-0 director Hajime Tabata passing on a message from project lead Tetsuya Nomura.

Tabata stated, "Tetsuya Nomura wanted to give the message that he'll soon show the future of Final Fantasy." It's not clear if that is in reference to Versus or something else.

More as we get it.
