I miss this game. I had so much love for the character creator, but they killed my interest when they changed how builds worked and thus made all of my high level characters useless, due to how all their items now having no purpose. That was a bit of a failure of design.

But I can’t hate it. Never stopped loving it. I may go back, someday. I spent far, far too long in Champions Online, and not even always questing. Sometimes just hanging out in my penthouse, because I could. In its own, strange little way, it’s a thing of beauty, a work of art, and yet at the same time it’s an acquired taste.

I still love it. I miss it. I may one day revisit it again, if only to hang out in my penthouse as a power-armoured werewolf, to spend some time with friends, there.

Though the loss of Tumerboy from the game was a huge hit, too. It was him on the forums that made half of the experience. He was brilliant. And due to him and a couple of others, I learned more about MMORPG design than I ever could have from any other source. They were incredibly up front and candid about how everything worked. If you asked, he’d tell.

And he’s not there any more, either.

…so much change. Well, I’ll always have my memories. And what memories they are.

And watching that trailer… I see it’s as cheesy as ever. The cheesiness was one of the best parts about it, sometimes how corny and silly it was could just overload you in really great ways. It was a happy game.

Sigh. I do miss you, Champions Online.

It is a really solid MMO. I played it for a few months after I quit WoW, and it made for a nice change of pace.

It’s really missing a lot in terms of community and endgame, but you can’t help but think that if they had had more backing, they could’ve made a monster.
