Uncharted movie project loses second director

Uncharted's bumpy ride from game to film has hit another rough spot, with director Neil Burger reportedly leaving the project.

The Limitless director was was confirmed to be signed onto the project last year, but Variety reports Burger has left the project.

Sony Pictures has decided against nominating a new director for now, while the script is completely re-written by Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the duo behind the National Treasure franchise.

It's the second high-profile departure from the Uncharted director's role following David O. Russell's unexpected exit in early 2011. Sony wasn't impressed with O. Russell's treatment, which involved Mark Wahlberg as one member of a Sopranos-like family.

Burger took over in mid 2011, and immediately won fan approval by throwing O. Russell's ideas out and talking about Nathan Fillion. Uncharted developer Naughty Dog was bang behind him.
