The RPG cathegory will be really hard, all great games all around, the fiercest of them all for sure

They don’t really narrow these “short lists” down much do they? @1 agree it was a bumper year for action RPGs. I’d go Dark Souls without hesitation though. Simply because it was the complete package. Combat, game design, atmosphere and sublime level design.

Renegade Ops should be nominated for the worst dl one since Xbla launch.

It’s uncommon for such utter shite to be found in there. Worst 1200 points spent.

Yeah Manu…! really interested to see which one of those takes the win.

I’ve spent countless hours in that category alone, and I think I have to agree with DrDamn.. Dark Souls is just a viciously good game. Difficult without being unfair. Dripping in atmosphere. Thoroughly gripping from start to finish (if you’ve got the patience to see it through).

I think From Software have created a new type of game with the Souls series. I’ve never played anything quite like them in all my years of gaming.
I’d be very surprised if there aren’t studios out there already working on similar games but with alternate settings. With the soul system and the repeatedly dying malarkey, it does seem perfectly suited to a dark fantasy setting. But that doesn’t stop me thinking about how they could create a similar game in a sci-fi realm or a dark current-day city setting. More challenge and less hand-holding would please me greatly.

I’ll vote for Journey as well, for being so different and enchanting.

I’d love to throw some love to the Final Fantasy series, but up against Dark Souls, I just can’t.
