PlayStation patent shows Dual Shock, Move and Eye interacting with TV ads

A PlayStation patent filed by Sony for turning "television commercials into interactive network video games," have been dug up by GameNMotion.

The patent filing shows how adverts could include an interactive mini-game playable using PS3 peripherals with other viewers of the commercial.

Images attached to the patent show the Dual Shock 3 and Move controllers along with PlayStation Eye being used alongside ESPN, Facebook, YouTube, and other services via PS3 and a television set.

Here's a better explanation culled from the document:

"A media player coupled to the broadcast or streaming media source identifies the existence of the interactive segment and presents the user with an enhanced and interactive mini-game commercial that can be played with other "viewers" in a common or disperse demographic.

"Multiple methods for content delivery are provided, including a model where television commercial is inserted within consecutive frames of the television program, and a model where the commercial is overlaid on frames of the television program allowing the user to play the game while the television program is displayed.

"In a preferred embodiment, the termination of the interactive mini-game commercial is set within a fixed time period commensurate with traditional spot television advertising."

CVG notes the tech could be included with PS4, which is rumored to be codenamed Orbis.

Sony has not announced PS4, but a rumors have been swirling like a mad wind around the console for ages, and today a new rumor suggests it could support 4K resolution.

The console is rumored for a reveal next year.
