Black Ops Declassified is the tiniest hardcore shooter

Wednesday, 15th August 2012 00:59 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified is a bit of a coup for the Vita, especially as the portable incarnation is looking rather splendid. Pore over these screens from every angle.

Declassified was one of the gems of Sony’s Vita showcase at gamescom 2012 – although not the only one, which is all to the good – and we learned that it will see the return of the much-loved Nuketown map along with many details of its single-play campaign and multiplayer modes. Hit those links for video.

Black Ops Declassified arrives in November.

    Developed by nihilistic software(says so on us ps blog). Hope they do a better job on this than the Resistance BS (Burning Skies/ Bull Shit).
    Although to be fair , it looks much better than bs which itself was a good shooter without story, just like COD. One shouldn’t dismiss the game based on developers pedigree . They can always do better and can make a better game now that they are more familiar with vita.
    Good luck to them!

    @2, lol.

    Oh yeah. Great multiplayer shooter with 8v8 multiplayer, with crappy visuals that is worse than games on iOS devices?

    Trololo much?

    Nihilistic Software just ripped off Black Ops 1 models and textures. That is so awesome.

    @3,
    Multiplayer is shit, I agree on that.

    I was just curious why not using Unit13/SOCOM engine instead? They already shut down Zipper so all the IPs belong to Sony. And they could insist on using that engine – it looked really good on Vita.

    I’m more weary of this game now, in the trailer it says ‘Declassified Single Player Missions’ which to me means the game is more like a pick up and play style mission based game like Unit 13, using the MP maps to do quick 5min missions … that idea is SHIT.

    I want a full blown CoD game for my Vita, not some half assed attempt of one. This game will be bad, it’ll get middling reviews like Resistance … i can see it now.

    Disagree. To work as a handheld title I think a full blown CoD campaign isn’t the way to go. That works great for a TV console but not so much for a handheld. Unit 13 did a lot of things right in that regard. Snappy, missions with a scoring system to allow for leaderboards, friends challenges etc.

    How many checkpoints are in a CoD game??? Tons!!! You could easily put the console into sleep mode between play sessions and pick up and carry on.

    This title should be to prove to other developers that a full blown shooter can be done on such a small console, and it is worth their development time and money .. just like Uncharted Golden Abyss did. That was a full blown (if slightly lacking in thrills) Uncharted game that could have just been on the PS3, and i applauded it for it. They should not just do a half assed attempt of a full console game which is were Resistance failed.

    Don’t get me wrong i did like Unit 13 but it feels so empty and shallow and it was just rinsing the same assets over and over.

    It’s not about checkpoints, it’s about a game suited to a handheld for me. On a main console you can sit in front of a TV for a good couple of hours at a time and run through a campaign in a satisfying way – on a handheld the gaming time is generally shorter, more variable and interrupted.
