Killzone: Mercenary revealed as Vita exclusive, fight alongside Helghast forces

Killzone Mercenary has been revealed at Sony’s gamescom 2012 conference.

A short trailer by Guerrilla Games, and posted below, announced the game, which sees players taking contracts out on their friends for bounties and heading out into the world to take them down from an FPS perspective.

Killzone: Mercenary is a first-person shooter built on the same engine as Killzone 3, which implements both the twin-stick FPS control scheme alongside touch pad functionality.

For the first time in a Killzone campaign, players will fight alongside Helghast forces as well the ISA, carrying out missions regular soldiers just won’t or can’t handle.

As a mercenary, players will be free to decide which tactics and loadouts they will use to fulfill contracts; and rewards range from “state-of-the-art weaponry to cold, hard cash” upon completion.

Killzone: Mercenary is out next year, and the visuals look top notch in that similar Killzone fashion.

Certainly looks better than COD for Vita.

Exactly what I was thinking. Seems like the folks at Sony knows how to work the Vita best.

Very little info there but it does certain look a lot nicer than CoD. Sounds like they are taking a similar approach to Unit 13 too – where a pointless overarching story is replaced by bite-sized missions with some sort of scoring mechanic. That’s how I see FPS working best on a handheld. Potentially involving co-op? Seems like it might be set-up like that. Quite a lot of conjecture on my part mind.

Think I played this game somewhere… something starting with a ‘Q’.

I didn’t like the current-gen killzone so probably won’t be getting this, unless it turns out to be the only competent FPS on the vita.

i liked the killzone games but i really love the resistance games…look what they´ve done to that franchise with resistance BS. i couldn´t believe it. made me so mad, i instantly sold my vita. it felt like a punch in the face. throwing that rubbish at me after i bought, played and loved the first 3 games, after playing those great psp games as well, bought a vita and then….that pile of crap? unbelieveable. stuff like that just wouldn´t happen to a nintendo ip.
that said: i like the ps 3 for the exclusives. i really do. some great gaming moments. some of the best even. sony knows how to to build up hype and they mostly deliver with a huge bang. you know, when i get home with a day 1 copy of uncharted 2 it really feels great. i know that i will soon play an ultrapolished awesome, immersive game. the moment you play through the first level of gow III…that´s just great great stuff and over the top entertainment.
what sony should learn from nintendo though is: care about your ip´s.
    i am slightly concerend recently.
look at the sony brawler. good game but not enough love for the characters and the detail. look at resistance bs. where is a medievil ps3 game? what´s happening to ratchet and clank recently?! a soso uncharted card game? lbp soso kart racer?

there´s a new sly game coming out and it looks damn solid. sony needs more of this. they have some great ip´s, some of the best in gaming, they shouldn´t destroy them, they should build up on the legacy and even expand it…like nintendo does.

no fanboy wars now please. i love my ps and i got 3 games on preorder i canot wait for: ninokuni-gow-lastofus. this is exactly the hot stuff i am talking about.
early 2013 looks damn good for the ps3. ps3, 3ds an wiiu have some exciting stuff coming out soon…
i just want sony to take a different path, they aren´t completeley off track, but they should slow down and take a good look on their map first before going on. then focus on the goal and just freaking go there the straight way.
