Capcom: We didn’t want Devil May Cry to “fizzle out” before reboot

Capcom producer Motohide Eshiro says a new direction has been taken on the upcoming DmC because the company didn’t want the franchise to “fizzle out”.

“As far as the timing is concerned, a big part of the motivation is not waiting for the series to fizzle out, but to do it while the series is still doing really well,” Eshiro told Siliconera at a recent preview event.

“We’ve done Devil May Cry 1-4 and they keep getting better with each iteration, but rather than waiting for things to go badly and then trying to give it a rebirth we thought it would be an interesting challenge to try to do something new with it while it’s still quite viable.”

“As a company, we want to challenge ourselves rather than wait until the series is not viable,” he added later. “Let’s do it now and see what happens while it’s still quite big.”

They boned it with DmC 4. Graphically it was good but the story and game play weren’t quite as good as 3. The side-lining of Dante was also a big mistake.

@2 I agree completely. DMC is Dante, choosing a different main character for 4 was the first big mistake, the second being the entire new game being made by NT, seems like a bad joke.

Can’t wait for this game. So glad NT is working on the game and not Capcom. I mean if you look at what they did to Resident Evil … Jeez, so glad they gave it to someone who actually knows what the fuck they are doing.

Kind of mad that it got delayed, to be honest.

@2 Yeah but the new Dante….. ULTRA GAAAAY!

If they release Dante’s old looks in a free DLC that is going to work in cutscenes as well, I’ll pick it up, otherwise, go to hell Ninja Theory and Capcom..

I agree with this statement, and i think this will be for the better, i mean that Ninja Theory is developing this game, i cannot wait for the game.

@ 5: Wow, so character models mean more to you than gameplay? Seems a bit short-sighted, if you ask me.

Well judging the gameplay from NT’s previous games its going to be shit alongside the Character models.

Oh Ninja Theory with this Andy Serkis you are turely spoiling us.

@7 for a Universe you liked yes it means a lot. Look at the Robocop movie reboot for example, they’re changing everything about what made the first movie popular, terrorizing the legendary Robocop’s appearance and now he’ll fight Al-Qaede. It might end up a great live action movie, but it wont be Robocop just because the dude in the metal suit is called Robocop or Alex Murphy.
