Nintendo short film comp carries support of Ridley Scott

Nintendo and the British Film Institute have launched a competition for budding film makers, challenging them to create a short film on a 3DS or 3DS XL, something that Mr Ridley Scott wholeheartedly approves of.

Nintendo and the BFI are accepting entries for a competition to create short films on a 3DS and 3DS XL along the theme of British Summer 2012. I'd make a joke about shots of Wellington boots and people staring wistfully out of windows at the pouring rain, but it's actually brilliant sunshine in my little corner of the UK, so I'll keep shtoom lest I anger the weather gods.

The winning film will be premièred before the Nintendo Gala screening at the 56th BFI London Film Festival, which takes place from October 10–21 2012. In addition, the winner will have the chance to create their own short 3D film with a professional film crew.

Competition figurehead, Ridley Scott, said via a press release:

"Digital and 3D filmmaking is within the grasp of everyone these days. I’m excited by all the skill and talent that’s emerging in the UK, telling stories in different ways and it’s vital that it gets our support. This competition launched by the BFI and Nintendo opens up a big opportunity for emerging filmmakers to make their mark and they should grab it with both hands. I can’t wait to see the results."
