Plants vs Zombies to spawn a multiplayer shooter – rumour
Whispers say PopCap has something quite unusual in store for its heretofore tower defence charmer, Plants vs Zombies.

Kotaku cites a “a Canadian industry source with ties to Electronic Arts” for word that PopCap is working on a Plants vs Zombies multiplayer shooter.
The game is said to be headed to consoles and to be “in the vein of Team Fortress 2″. PopCap has not yet greenlit the project, the source added.
Lending weight to the astonishing rumour is a report from industry sleuth Superannuation, which highlights a new PopCap team at EA Canada’s Burnaby digs.
Mostly staffed by former EA Black Box members, the new team has been hiring for console development, specifically searching for an animator with motion capture experience and a multiplayer designer with shooter experience.
It’s probably worth noting that EA has trademarked something called Jet Set Secrets and Jet Set Detectives.

Because it’s EA. Duh.
“Do another one, but this time make it a shooter”.

I would be all for this if its similiar to Orcs Must DIe. That game had proven you can do a Third Person tower defense game.

@2 I’d buy this just for the irony.

If they went down the Monday Night combat route, it could actually work quite nicely…
Still a weird choice though…
I would’ve thought a more fleshed out pikmin style game on the Wii U could have been a better fit.

@6 That’s a lousy reason to buy it
I think this would be a classic case of a megacorporation buying a company without understanding the least bit about what actually makes it great.
The reason why PvZ stands out is because it’s so simple. It doesn’t need fine tuning, and it certainly doesn’t need reworked mechanics.
It just needs to be even lovelier, and bigger than before. Money in the bank, yo.
Popcap are already having problems selling their games post-acquisition, I strongly doubt that the EA touch will make things any easier.
