Mafia 3 in development for Xbox 720 & PS4 – Report

Mafia 3 is currently in development for next-gen consoles, according to an alleged 2K Games source close to Eurogamer.cz.

The Eurogamer.cz report also states that Mafia 3 was originally due to hit Xbox 360 and PS3, but was pushed back to next-gen formats.

We contacted 2K Games for comment and a company rep told us, “2K does not comment on internet rumour or speculation.”

The source also claims Mafia 3 will launch 2013.

Great,
Mafia 2 was pretty good :)

Hmmm…

I wonder how the next gen could play out with multi-plat games.

Especially with that leaked ’720′ doc emphasising the importance of having a console experience that couldn’t be found anywhere else.

We could see huge differences between two ‘versions’ of the same game.

Should give the pixel counters lots to do!

Meh,the second one was boring, there was nothing to do in the city beyond the missions.

Yup, agree with Edo. There should definitely be more life and stuff to do. Missed that in the second instalment. I’ll wait for an official announcement since I’ve been hearing about Mafia 3 for some time without anything concrete, but I am definitely exited if it’s indeed in development.

Mafia II was a decent yet slooow game.

As an open world game it was terrible. It seemed the only reason why they bothered to include a whole city was so you could drive around it REALLY slow, lest you get killed by cops for speeding.

There were a lot of very illogical things in that game, but ultimately I quite liked it. It had some pretty rewarding shooting, totally on the level with Red Dead Redemption, the cars felt very responsive, and for better or worse, they did attempt a story.

It wasn’t a very good story, but it did have the whole prison portion thrown in, just for exposition. I don’t hate that, even if I didn’t enjoy it.

It was kind of impossible to enjoy it, seeing as they erased your entire progress just to fit the story. I thought games stopped doing that in the early odds.

If they had cared just a little bit about also making it fun, beyond just another game that wants to be a movie, it could’ve been a monster. The halfassed DLC didn’t exactly help things.

Mafia II could be so good, but it felt very dissappointing. The shooting felt off and the missions just weren’t that much fun. And the story…it just couldn’t interest me. A shame…cause the first one was awesome.

Considering there was 6 years gap in development between mafia 1 and 2 , mafia 3 will soon after next gen launches.

First game was a masterpiece, second game was a pile of turd.

I really liked the retro vibes, but it did feel a little shallow. The lack of open world kind of killed it as a sandbox opportunity to just have fun with.

Agreed with Erthazus. 2K screwed the second one up royally. They had So much of the original content cut, in the hope that they could repackage it as download content. Did you know there was an explorable subway system that they had cut? There is evidence of so much that they had chopped in the game

@11: Wow, an explorable subway system where you could … walk around and look at stuff. Nothing would’ve saved that train-wreck. The story was terrible, the pacing was terrible, the gameplay was boring, there was freaking nothing to do in the game.

Bullshit, guys .. Both were great games. As a fan of the entire series I didn’t judge 2K for cutting so much potentially great content out of the game while leaving the town empty, but that was meant to be like that. Remember Mafia 2 wasn’t exactly open-world game, so people weren’t supposed to explore the town.

Screw Mafia 3, I want Hidden and Dangerous 3. It would be great to have a modern shooter which is genuinely tactical, where you aren’t guided through the level, where you can play the same mission in half a dozen different ways. Plus, they were the only WW2 guys to do the Burma campaign.

Iam with the guys that did like Mafia II and for that i cannot wait for number 3, especially if it is in next gen machines.

I enjoyed Mafia 2, I thought the gameworld was very impressive graphically.
I imagine that the next gen sequel could be amazing, the world and actual game seemed a bit shallow compared to GTAIV but it was a great mission game.
