Final Fantasy VII will be free for those who purchased it on PC over the weekend, and the price of the game will be refunded, according to a statement from Square Enix.

Speaking with Kotaku, a representative for Square said “full refunds” for the purchase as well as a “free version” of the game will be provided to those who bought Final Fantasy VII early will be provided when the game launches as intended.

Final Fantasy VII was released on the US Square-Enix store over the weekend, but when purchased and downloaded, gamers found the SecuROM DRM wouldn’t authenticate the title.

In the statement handed to Kotaku, Square said its “teams were testing the product website for the upcoming relaunch of Final Fantasy VII on PC,” and due to the live state of the testing, “a small number of people were able to purchase a pre-release build of the game.”
