Final Fantasy 7 PC launch was accidental – report

Monday, 6th August 2012 13:08 GMT By Dave Cook

Final Fantasy 7 launched on PC at the weekend in the US, but fans who downloaded the game found it wouldn’t work. A Square-Enix source has allegedly clarified the issue.

MCV reports that a Square-Enix source close to the publication has told them the launch was premature and that the publisher will issue a statement on the matter imminently.

Final Fantasy 7 PC went live on the US Square-Enix store at the weekend, but when gamers tried to play it they found that the SecuROM DRM wouldn’t authenticate.

The reason? The game wasn’t supposed to be out yet.

More as it happens.

The last few FF titles weren’t total wins, I don’t know about total fails either but…close enough.

@4 FFXI and FFVXII were both great games, and FFXIII had lots of problems with its characters and story, but the gameplay itself was great.

    - teh srs bsns with teh phallic swords,
    - teh romance following that,
    - teh ‘my friend has turned into a stone, let’s go on a journey to save him’,
    - teh Daddy complex.

Teh drama in development looks like something which could end up being that too.

FF XII had two epic characters (Balthier and Basch) and a unique politically motivated story that was a nice break from the norm. it’s MMO style combat was a letdown

FF XIII deviated too far from the tried and true formula, but it wasnt horrible.

back on topic, this is a bit of an embarrasment, but FF VII fans are pretty rabid, once they have a working copy installed, they’ll forget this.

They should remake FF VI, best in the series for me.
