Steam hardware survey denotes increase in lower-end PC use

Valve has released the results of its latest Steam Hardware & Software Survey, and during June 2012, the firm noted an increase in Intel graphics as well as increased use of older dual and single-core systems. It also noted an increase in the use of DirectX 9. With resolution, 25% of participants used 1920×1080, while 18% preferred 1366×768, and 7% used 1600×900 resolution. The reason for the use of older hardware, according to PCGamesN, was more users playing Steam titles through their laptops as well as the rise in popularity in indie titles which support lower graphics.

Primary Display Resolution (PC) 1920 x 1080 is now a standard for most of the hardcore gamers.

Currently i don’t play games on it anymore.

On what? On that resolution? If not than which resolution are you playing games on? 1920 x 1080 looks awesome enough for me. (I’m on a 24 inch monitor. I love it! :D )

I believe it’s the fact that even mid-range laptops are today powerful enough to play some games on. Maybe not Battlefield 3, but most Steam games run fairly fine.

Actually, I was thinking. The whole Intel thing could just be i5/7s, which both have on board graphics so maybe people are holding off buying a graphics card?

BS, we all know this low resolution is the fault of consoles like Xbox 360 and PS3 – they`re holding back PC gaming all the time…

Besides no serious PC gamer is only using one screen anymore, you need at least 4 – unless you`re a casual console owner.

@7 Oh calm down! “we all know this low resolution is the fault of consoles like Xbox 360 and PS3 – they`re holding back PC gaming all the time…”? That’s preposterous! “no serious PC gamer is only using one screen anymore, you need at least 4″ What? I’m using 1 screen and I’m pretty serious. I’m in the top 10% Battlefield 3 players in the world. How are you ranked?

@8 Hmm.. yeah. You’re right. I didn’t think about that. Isn’t that a bit too small!? :)

Comment #7 is pure sarcasm.

Gamers dont care about resolution. Gamers care about gameplay. Erthazus cares about resolution and he’s not a gamer, he’s a tech-whore.
