Cliffhanger takes to Kickstarter with Shadowrun Online

Thursday, 19th July 2012 13:35 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Cliffhanger Productions has formed a Kickstarter for Shadowrun Online, the top-down title the firm announced back in October.

The title’s being developed in conjunction with co-creator Jordan Weisman.

The firm is seeking $500,000 in funding, and as of this writing, $57,586 has been pledged from 854 backers. It still has with 26 days left.

A free-to-play, browser-based MMO, Shadowrun Online uses the Unity Eengine, and will arrive on tablets as well as browsers. Players will also be able to transfer achievements and send messages to other players due to a connection with the Shadowrun tabletop game and the Shadowrun Universe website.

Another Shadowrun title from Harebrained Schemes called Shadowrun Returns, met its Kickstarter goal back in April, and them some, when it netted over $1.8 million in funding from more than 36,000 backers.

The Kickstarter video is below for Shadowrun Online.

Thanks, Develop.

If it is allowed, I really would like to ask you guys to spread the word on other forums…the project is at the funding stage right now, but still lacks of the needed creds.

I am not linked to the developers in any way…I am just a fan of the shadowrun universe, who really would like this project come to life…

    regards

This very current update adresses those players, who feel uncomfortable with the free to play model.

    “Client version

When the press release of our Kickstarter campaign hit the various online gaming news sites, there was a lot of discussion about Shadowrun Online being a “Browser game”. Now, we only meant to describe one way players can access the game, but many people out there thought “Oh my god, it’s a Casual Facebook game,” and told us so. But we can assure you: Shadowrun Online is a full fledged 3D game for real gamers! Have a look at our in-game screenshots that are now moved to the frontpage – thanks to Bruce, Honeybadger and others for pointing that out – or check out our current game “Jagged Alliance Online” which is currently in Beta, but it can show you what a “Browser” game can really do and http://www.cliffhanger-productions.com will get you there!

At the same time some of our backers were asking if the game would also be available as a client game on platforms like Steam, and so we discussed that with our engineers, and can now proudly say that we will also release a client version of it! With this it will be totally up to you to decide if you want to play it in your browser, which can be played in fullscreen mode like any other PC or Mac video game, or download the client on to your harddrive and play it from there. We think this will give you a little bit of an idea about what we can accomplish with Shadowrun Online!”
