Torchlight dev wants alleged asset-copycat off the App Store

Runic has gathered together a compelling body of evidence suggesting Armed Heroes Online developer EGLS ripped a large number of assets directly from Torchlight. EGLS’s response was a flat denial, but Runic boss Travis Baldree told PC Gamer he has no doubt regarding the alleged plagiarism and is seeking to have Armed Heroes Online removed from the Canadian App Store. The whole report is pretty damning; click through for side-by-side comparisons and other intriguing similarities like identical, misspelled filenames. Whoops.

I especially liked the bit where the EGLS chick accuses Torchlight of ripping off the pet mechanic from Fate when the dude who designed it works for Runic.

Oh man they even have a lot of Warcraft designs jacked, like Priest T13 shoulders on the Wizard, Black Bow of the Betrayer for that ranger, Necromancer is practically a Death Knight in cloth does death coil, bone shield, etc… How in the burning hell no one else noticed this shit? Blizzard should also be all over this.

@4: No shit! Although the shoulders i believe you’re talking about are actually a rip off of the warlock T13, not priest. Although that’s only if you are referring to the image i think you are. None the less the evidence is overwhelming.

Wow how are these guys not being euthanized in a pool of massive lawsuits right now?

This is my new favourite bit of this saga:

“in Torchlight there is a sword called the ‘Sword of Adam’.
It is modeled after our technical artist, and uses his actual voice to say goofy phrases as you swing it.

They used that as well.”]

rofl, not a leg to stand on.
