Report – Saw creators chosen to rewrite God of War movie

The long-dormant God of War movie mountain is rumbling again, leaking word of rewrites like so much ominous smoke.

Abandoning that analogy before I’m required to make an effort, The Hollywood Reporter claims Universal has selected Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to completely rework the planned adaptation, which has been in the works for years.

The two are best known for the Saw franchise but have also worked with Guillermo del Toro on Pacific Rim.

The new treatment will replace an initial draft by David Self, the apparently quite humble executive producer.

God of War film rumours began surfacing as early as 2005, the year of the first game’s release, but never really coalesced; Rush Hour director Brett Ratner was supposed to be on board, but dropped out, and leaks suggest the script differs markedly from the games’ plot.

The next God of War game is Ascension, due on PlayStation 3 in 2013.

Thanks, IGN.

They’re not the Saw creators. They’re just writers who have written a couple of the sequels.

As #4 said.

They had nothing to do with creation of Saw. Heck, they weren’t even among credits of first 3 movies. Leigh Whannell and James Wan created the original saw as writer and director respectively.

The above due came aboard after Saw movies went from lame to horrible with Saw 5 or 6 or something. So in other news, this is REALLY bad news for Ghost of Sparta.
