New Britannia is Lord British's mobile RPG

Ultima creator Richard "Lord British" Garriott has finally unveiled his new social game, once described as the "spiritual successor" to his MMOs. Say hello to New Britannia.

The name is an obvious reference to Garriott's Ultima series, but unfortunately is merely a placeholder title revealed as part of a financial press release. Garriott's new company, Portalarium, has secured an additional $7 million in funding, and used the occasion of announcing this to casually mention that "Ultimate RPG" or "New Britannia" is on the way to "primarily mobile platforms".

You're likely to see any reference to Britannia wiped from the RPG's title closer to release as EA has apparently closed down Garriott's negotiations for the property.

No release date as yet, and probably not for quite some time as Portalarium's other project, Ultimate Collector: Garage Sale, is still in closed beta ahead of launch.

Thanks, Shack.
