Devil’s Third to release on “wide range” of devices digitally

Friday, 6th July 2012 14:36 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Valhalla Games CEO Satoshi Kanematsu has said the firm plans to release Devil’s Third digitally on both PC and consoles. According to a message posted on the studio’s website, in addition to console and PC, the firm plans to bring the franchise to “a wide range of digital devices. “We are also looking beyond the boundaries of video games and plan to work with other various forms of media, including manga, novels, animation and film, to create a blockbuster franchise,” he said. “We will continue to do our best to fulfill your expectations, and we sincerely hope for your continued encouragement and support.” It was announced earlier this week THQ would no longer be publishing the firm’s title, headed by Tomonobu Itagaki, and that all rights to the franchise had been returned to Valhalla Games. I wonder what the reason is that THQ did this.

Really? I mean, the new THQ CEO himself said, that THQ couldn’t take any risks at the moment, that’s why they are not publishing some games anymore.

And to be honest, publishing a nippon Game in EU and US is a risk. Still, I like japanese games and I hope that Itagaki is going to show, that he’s still the boss. F*** you TECMO :D

@1 The expanse of advertising versus a return in profit.

This isn’t an American shooter with a military focus. It’s chances of making a profit are virtually non-existence.

Honestly when you look at it practically this doesn’t inspire confidence. Lets take a look at the situation.
THQ bought publishing rights for the game. THQ has been doing badly so they look for buyers to publish the game. No one bites and so they hand everything back to the devs despite them having spent some money on the title.
Lets take a look at Valhalla, when was the last time anyone saw anything about this game? Some alpha footage trailer around the Kinect reveal. It’s been a no-show at TGS. Nothing’s been shown since. All we’ve seen is footage of Valhalla having a good time and a bunch of odd interviews. Now they say they’ll bring this to a wide range of devices. It doesn’t really inspire confidence, more like we need to recoup something from this.

Also this game pretty much sounds right up WB’s alley, I mean they published Lollipop Chainsaw after all. Unless they pick up a publisher I’m not too certain. At least show some footage at TGS that could inspire someone to publish it at the least (depending on interest, it’s happened before). As for being profitable I suppose we have to wait for a few weeks to see how a game like LC being published by WB with all the marketing it received fare. If it does well, I expect titles like this and the Killer is dead to picked up by them.
