Microsoft: Cloud tech has been part of Xbox strategy “for many years”
Responding to Sony’s acquisition of Gaikai, Microsoft has said it’s already onboard the cloud gaming bandwagon.

“The cloud has been a key component of our strategy and a big area of investment with Xbox for many years,” a Microsoft representative told GamesIndustry.
“Through Xbox LIVE we’re serving up gaming and entertainment in the cloud to more than 40 million people. We’re committed to delivering extraordinary entertainment experiences across devices in a uniquely connected way through Xbox, Windows Phone, Windows 8 and other popular devices, and we’re looking forward to continuing to innovate in this space in the future.”
Next generation hardware rumours have consistently earmarked cloud and streamed gaming as a possible inclusion; following Gaikai’s purchase, one-time rival OnLive is not expected to remain single long.

I must admit that i don’t know the slightest about Cloud Gaming. But is it something we gamers can really look forward to? Is it a good thing at all?

sorry all i read was blah blah blah here is our p.r bullshit.
@#1 Yes and no… As long you dont have a limited monthly bandwidth i guess it can be good.
As a canadian, i only have 150gb of dl/month. I highly doubt i will be able to play as much as i want with that technology (game streaming).

A bit obvious from Microsoft to say that. Did anyone expect a “Oh no, we totally dropped the ball and we’re fucked”? They will always try to put a spin on it to make them look good.
But honestly, unless Microsoft has been cooking an equivalent in secret, they will need to make a partnership with or buy Onlive now.

I guess Gaikai and Onlive proved to be promising and succesful then, for Sony to buy it, and MS to also be going Cloud based? We’ll just have to wait and see how all this is gonna turn out. But in short..cloud gaming means, bye bye to having real physical retail games?
