Harvest Moon developer inspired by violent games
Yasuhiro Wada, the man behind one of the most non-violent gaming franchises imaginable, is driven to create his paradise gaming worlds by the mayhem of mainstream release.
Speaking to Gamasutra, Wada said going against the grain has been a constant theme in his life.
“I wouldn’t deny the violent games out there, but rather, I actually get influenced by them to create something very different,” he said.
“Because there are violent games with killing and war, that kind of shapes the identity for what I create. It’s healthy to bring much variety to games. If the only things you see are violent games, then it won’t be any fun.”
The famed creator bemoaned the lack of variety in games on show at E3 2012.
“Now I walk around, and all I see is the same kind of game. It’s a little sad,” he said.
