Total War: Rome II to release next year – first shots and vid

Monday, 2nd July 2012 14:00 GMT By Patrick Garratt

As expected, Sega has confirmed the existence of Total War: Rome II, pegging the sequel with a 2013 release date.

The Creative Assembly’s Total War: Rome II will release for PC next year, Sega said today.

The RTS will feature “the most expansive turn-based campaign and the largest, most cinematic real-time battles yet seen in any game.”

Rome II will feature a new graphics engine capable of rendering “tens of thousands of men” in “bone-splintering detail”. New unit cameras are to be included.

Scalability is being promised, allowing you to play the game “no matter what your spec.”

“Our games have always encompassed a grand vision,” said creative boss Mike Simpson.

“But we’re now pushing that vision at both ends of the spectrum. From the immense reach of the sandbox campaign right down to the human-level drama of a single warrior on the battlefield, we’re aiming for an unprecedented level of detail and scale”.

“In our 25th year of games development, it feels fitting to return to our most critically acclaimed era”, continued Rob Bartholomew, brand director. “There’s been a multi-generational leap in technology since the original game and we are ready to set another benchmark in gaming.”

Here’s a live-action teaser.

I wish those guys have some other IP like Rpg or FPS so they can also push PC to the limmit in those genre also.

I feel pretty much the same way about this as Company of Heroes 2. I just really hope they don’t fuck it up. Rome was the crown jewel in my opinion, and it’s still really good fun.

Shooting at generals with cannons and trebuchets was never as much fun as impaling them with a ballista or a scorpion.

@3 They’re really pretty nicely optimized these days. Since Napoleon, I haven’t had a Total War game hogging resources it wasn’t using.

@Maximum Payne They are apparently making a next gen Aliens game, I imagine that will have an amazing PC version.

    @5 That’s nice to hear.
I guess I am sick of console port or game design in console in mind.

For a change, I would like to see Sega/CA only ship the game once its completed, and not push it out no matter what state it is because the release date is just a week away.

Either way, a TW game is no longer a day #1 purchase – Rome or not after getting burnt by shitty Shogun 2, the dx11 fiasco and the fact it lacked depth.

Shame as I have been a huge fan of the series and simply love Rome/Empire/NTW games. Lets hope they hire an AI designer who actually knows what he is doing this time.

    Medieval 1 – Amazing
    Rome – Fairly good
    Medieval 2 – Fairly good
    Empire – Average
    Napoleon – Average
    Shogun 2 – Average

Break the trend, Creative Assembly… please. Redeem the series.

OK first it’s cool and I’m happy they are doing to do another Rome total war GAME, But if they are going to add Hannibal or Phoenicians lets make this clear right now Hannibal and the Phoenicians are black people!!!!!!

HANNIBAL, THE AFRICAN WARRIOR, History Channel Documentary

Ethnicity of the Phoenicians – Rare

    Lebanese are fake Phoenicians

So are anceint Hebrews, Egyptians,Nubains and Ethiopians

Nubia: The Black Kingdom Of Kush 3 # 5

Black Egypt & Her Mother Kush (now modern Sudan)

    The Original Egyptians Were Black

if your going to historical game based on history lets make things correct for a change!

oh Iam going to be joining the assembly forums real soon!

@11 Except of course that the Israelites, Egyptians, Phonecians and Carthaginians were not ‘black’. It’s wishful thinking by black Americans dating from the 1970s, not academic history.

I look forward to this but I do wish CA wouldn’t focus on such trivial matters like beach landings and individual fighters. I’d much rather they concentrated on improving the gameplay and releasing a non-buggy game. Hopefully they’ll be able to piggyback on some of the excellent research and work done by modders to Rome I.
