Tomb Raider reboot is “not just one game,” says Crystal

Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that more Tomb Raider games are to follow next year’s reboot, speaking to Videogamer.

Crystal Dynamics’ global brand director Karl Stewart told the site: “I have to be careful because I know exactly where she’s going.

“You have to look at the future, you have to look at where… It’s not just one game.

“At the end of this game we want her to be that strong female character that is willing to go and seek out mysteries and seek out tombs. She’s going to be going to plenty of tombs in this game, but we’re going to have somebody who wants to go on that adventure, who wants to be the person that she now is. That’s the goal.”

Stewaer refused to expand on the future of the franchise.

“I don’t want to say anymore on it because I’ll have the game director of the next game going, ‘What the fuck are you saying?’”

It was confirmed yesterday that True Blood actor Camilla Luddington will voice the new Lara.

Tomb Raider will release on March 5, 2013.

    This is interesting.

What’s interesting about this specific game is that they humanize her while steering her towards the Lara Croft we used to know. Who will this new Lara Croft be once she has adapted to killing in order to survive? I mean, we’ll get story with the first game and we’ll become attached to her, but how will they portray Lara without falling back to old conventions in the sequels? I’m stocked like no other for the reboot, but the sequels will definitely also have my attention.

I’m really liking what Crystal Dynamics is doing with this game. Such a difference from the previous Tomb Raiders. This developer definitely saved Tomb Raider with Legend and Underworld, but it was still very similar to the old games. This is the change and direction Tomb Raider needs. And actually caring for Lara as a character, a person? That’s definitely something new but i do see that happening with this game.
