Sonic Racing sequel detailed for PS3 and Vita

The PS3 and Vita versions of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed have been discussed on the PlayStation Blog. Unfortunately, the poster absent-mindedly forgot to mention whether it will feature crossplay. Tsk.

Sega America community manager, Kellie Parker, has taken to the PlayStation Blog to talk about Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, the sequel to Sonic's equally egotistically titled 2010 racer, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, being developed by Sumo Digital.

In the blog post, Parker talks of the various beloved Sega characters and environments that will make an appearance in the sequel, which will include the likes of Sonic (obviously), Monkey Ball's AiAi, Shinobi's Joe Musashi and Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe.

Racers will sport vehicles that will automatically adapt to the terrain, transforming into planes, cars and boats, where appropriate. If that sounds a lot like the seventh kart outing of a certain Nintendo plumber it should be noted that vehicles in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will actually fly and float, whereas Mario Kart 7 featured more "falling with style" and driving underwater.

Curiously, given the title, real-world NASCAR driver Danica Patrick will also feature as a racer.

Online multiplayer is confirmed but sadly Parker does not mention whether or not PS3 and Vita owners will be able to race one another via the systems' crossplay feature.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is expected later this year for PS3 and Vita as well as 360, 3DS and Wii U.
