More details on Dead Space 3′s co-op, enemies and world

EA let the new Dead Space game out the bag at this year’s E3. VG247 got to see more of the game and speak to John Calhoun, producer on Dead Space 3. Bug squashing after the jump.

Dead Space 2′s multiplayer really wasn’t something to shout about, and it seems like a good decision for them to ditch it. Now they’ve brought in a co-op system that really does sound like a lot of fun.

Above, you’ll find a video interview that talks about the game’s new setting, bigger enemies and the drop-in drop-out co-op.

Dead Space 3 is out February 2013 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Gameplay looks awfull. This is shitty Lost Planet 2 with a Dead Space player skin.

So far looks like a strict no-buy. And no-download even as free PS+ game.

I can be wrong, it’s just so far it looks like P.O.S.

Please. Both of you are still gonna get sucked in an buy, stop fooling yourselfs.
I remember before DeadSpace 2 was released every body claimed giving Isaac a voice would destroy the tension in the game and all that crap… Now this. Don’t you guys ever learn?

These guys made the first two games awesome, give them a bit of credit, damn!
There pretty much making two games in one singleplayer AND co-op, two separate modes for us to enjoy. Relax!

@4, didn’t buy Dead Space 2 until months after its release and then only on the recommendation of 2 trusted friends.

Loved DS1 but DS2 sucked balls, IMO.

This looks like another step away from survival horror.

    No thanks.

Such a shame. They went from deep space survival horror to this open world generic covershooting lost planet ripoff.

@7 Dead Space has always been a Sci fi horror action game. This one is no different. And please stop it with the Lost Planet rip off. As if that game is the first and only on to have it’s setting being an ice planet. don’t be stupid. :’)

Here is a 20min gameplay video:

They did go more into a action/call of duty style.

The developer said this himself, cause they wanne appeal more to the masses and “shooter sell more copies than survuval horror”.

Normal weapons instead of mining tools
    Coop instead of fear/isolation/horror
Cover system with hordes of enemies
    and so on

Gotte wait and see the video reviews but i fear the end for my Dead Space journey.

@9 Co-op is optional, if you play it single player you are still alone and you won’t have an AI partner. Also you do still use mining tools, just like in Dead Space 2, where there were also some normal guns.

Plus fear and isolation can still be present in co-op if done right. System Shock 2 is an example of that, even Doom 3 and the Lost in Nightmares DLC for RE5 shows that. (How I wish all of RE5 was like that)

There is hardly hordes of enemies, there were like 6 humans dude, the same thing happens in the first two were a few waves or just 5 or 5 Necro’s came at you. Plus the cover system is just you walking around crouched. You don’t actually lean against anything.

But yeah we’ll see what happens. I have faith in Visceral Games though, and I am sure you’ll see more of the horror in the month’s leading up to it.

    Dead Space= d00m 3+Resident Evil
    Dead Space 2= original
Dead Space 3= Resident Evil 5

the funny thing is DS3 tries to go to the route RE5 did and hoping it can surpass it with the run+gun and now a cover system.
And the is RE6 took the same mechanics from RE5 but improving upon it 20x!

won’t be buying this game anyway. Until EA fixes their UK servers with the uncountable disconnection, will then be when I’ll buy their games.

@8 yeah right, I can cleary see lots of horror in an open world co-op covershooting game…. And I’m sorry, if it hurts your feelings but this is the most blatant LP rip off ever. Doesn’t even need to be on an ice planet for that matter, if you take a look a the creature design you might also see some parallels hence the gameplay as “shoot the orange glowing stuff”.

And don’t call me stupid just because I sense a great IP gowing down the toilet because of a publisher who is in need to *broadly appealing*

@9 “Normal weapons instead of mining tools”, I was afraid of that.

The one thing I kept consistent for DS1+2 was making the Plasma Cutter my workhorse.

    Boo I say. Boo.

Has there been any actual, confirmation that mining tools are out, or is this just an assumption being made?

But yeah, not liking the direction of this one at all.

all ppl that saying that there will be no mining tools clearly can’t use their eyes, watch the damn demo again!!!!!!
plus it seems you can new piece together 2 guns, there was Plasma Cutter with other gun, seriously watch the damn demo again and don’t go throwing stupid facts.

still hate ice planet and human enemy.

I dont know… Dead space 1 was a gem… This is just so far away from what it used to be. EA has a problem with milking a series till its completely overdone and bad… it eventually dies off… Take the Ultima Series for instance. Not giving the hardcore fans what they want ” EXPANDING the Playerbase” doesnt always equal a good thing.

Still, can’t be any worse than Dead Space Ignition.
