Valve appoints Yanis Varoufakis as its in-house virtual economist

Valve has hired an economics expert, professor Yanis Varoufakis, to help the firm with the virtual economies centered its games. Varoufakis was asked to come aboard the Valve ship after Gabe Newell read the professor's blog regarding economic imbalance between Germany and Greece. Newell, according to Varoufakis, said the firm was "running into a bunch of problems," as it scaled up its virtual economies. A Valve Economics blog has now been started where the professor will be "committing weekly reports on our projects, experiences and ideas regarding Valve's various social 'economies'."
