Retro Studios Wii U title is definitely not Zelda

Thursday, 14th June 2012 12:20 GMT By Stace Harman

The Nintendo-owned developer is busy working on a Wii U title, but according to Miyamoto it most certainly ain’t Zelda. That’s one IP to cross off the list, then.

Speaking to IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto said that the notion of Retro Studios developing a Zelda title in the future isn’t “out of the question”, but that “they’re too busy for that sort of thing right now.”

The Texas-based subsidiary of Nintendo, well-known for its work on the Metroid trilogy across the Game Cube and Wii platforms and for 2010′s Donkey Kong Country Returns, is “hard at work” on a Wii U title but there’s little clue as to what it might be or even when we’ll hear about it.

Meanwhile, Miyamoto has previously suggested that the next Zelda title is still at the planning stage and so it could be a while before we hear about that one too.

Their familiarity of the Metroid universe would certainly put them in good stead for a Wii U iteration – anything to wash away the taste of the distinctly average Team Ninja effort.

Would like to see their take on another IP or (shock!) something new? :)

Don’t blame Team Ninja for Other M.

Do you really think a studio as well versed in action game creation would make something as bad Other M if they could help it?

Anyway I hope Retro actually get to work on an original IP for once, I have a feeling that they never actually will be because almost everything they do with Nintendo’s IP seems to be gold.

Did you like the tank control parts where you walk deathly slow through a series of corridoes for no reason.

Did you like almost dying before being given the unlock to progress. Instead of you know getting the unlock before almost dying.

Did you like having to use a 2D control system in a 3D World.

Did you like the pixel hunts, hidden object parts.

Did you like the awful terrible story/acting/characters/script.

    Did you like THE BABY?

    :p

Ok, so Sakamoto is to blame for Other M. What’s to say that he won’t ruin any future iterations…?

Perhaps it’s time to put that franchise back out to pasture for a generation or so. Or maybe a 2.5D effort on the 3DS a la Shadow Complex will make do in the meantime?
