Ubisoft feels Wii U version of Assassin’s Creed III is the one to look out for
Alex Hutchison, the creative director of Assassin’s Creed III, feels that the Wii U version of the game is the one to watch out for.

He told ONM that being able to see a map on the Wii U GamePad is a big win as Assassin’s Creed III is going to be a huge game.
“Assassin’s Creed 3 is obviously an open world game and we’re dealing with huge expanses. It’s by far the biggest Assassin’s Creed we’ve built to date so having a map – a larger map – at your disposal at all times is a big win. It allows you to plan your navigation, see when enemies are nearby so the bigger the map, the better in our universe.”
He went on to explain how the Wii U’s GamePad can also prove to be useful during combat sequences.
“During combat on the Wii U, you always have access to all your other tools and weapons on the controller itself. So at any point you can very easily switch between your tomahawk and knife or hidden blades and sword without going into a menu.
“We have a new move called the running assassination. You can imagine charging into combat, taking out your first enemy, immediately killing a second with your tomahawk and knife, using a pistol to shoot a third and then switching using the controller to a smoke bomb to affect your escape.”
Assassin’s Creed III will be releasing on October 30 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The Wii U version has no date as yet.

Er, I don’t think you have to go into a menu to view a map or change weapons in Assassin’s Creed. Sure, for an extensive map or weapon customisation, but it’s not really a killer feature to have them on a gamepad instead of menu.

Just a marketing gimmick.
LONG LIVE TRADITIONAL CONTROLLERS!!! (As long as humans have 2 and not 4 eyes. When I grow 2 more eyes, I will think about buying Wii U.)

Big surprise all the devs took one look at that big tablet and thought “Maps!!”.

So they expect people to do that running assassination thing, while looking at the screen seeing what the character is doing while at the same time either looking down or intuitively switching weapons?
Like #3 said… they do realise humans only have two eyes and two thumbs? I can’t possibly think it will be easier than the radial menu they have in all the other games.

to tell you the truth the only game i will buy, third party speaking on the wiiU so far is the Aliens games, just for the motion tracker display on the tablet, the others not so much, i think this type of controll will be great for RTS, and MMO, and of course other things that devs would think off, i want something like kirbys canvas course on the Ds, it was a great original idea for the use of the stylus, i want something like this on the WiiU at some point.
