Harrison – despite E3 conference perceptions, Microsoft still focused on gamers

Wednesday, 13th June 2012 18:28 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Microsoft executive Phil Harrison has said despite the various non-gaming relating content being added to Xbox 360, the firm is not casting gamers aside.

Speaking with Edge, Harrison said game consumption on the console “is going up,” along with entertainment, but the later is “now higher than games,” despite the later’s growth.

“I have no concerns about what that means for gamers, whether they’re core gamers or casual gamers or somewhere in between,” he said. “This E3, we have announced that our top five franchises are all returning on Xbox 360 within the next 12 months, and I don’t know of many times in a platform’s history when that has happened, whether on Xbox or any other console.

“Halo, Gears of War, Forza, Fable and Dance Central, all returning in a bigger, better way. I think gamers are going to be pretty well-catered for.”

    Depends on what they call gamers i guess. Nothing about Dance Central is particularly interesting, i guess for the casual gamers out there though but for the ‘hardcore’ gamers not at all. Sure Halo is for the ‘real’ gamers out there, and Gears of War too, even though they didn’t show it at all, except for a trailer that showed…nothing. Fable for Kinect? Oh please…give me a break. A new IP would have been nice though. We’ll see what happens next year MS.

    Phil Harrison should really just stop thinking. It’s never worked for him.

    Is Harrison the guy who used to work at Sony?

    @4 Uhuh.

    The guy who promised 4D graphics and 120 fps graphics on the PS3, who said that the PS3 would replace the PC, and predicted that the Nintendo DS would be completely run off the market by Sony handhelds.

    What a catch!

    Phil Harrison at next E3 giving tech demos, talking about the greatness of
    MS’s new console, and being the voice for Xbox is truly going to be surreal. I am looking forward to the Youtube videos showing E3 2005/2006 and E3 2013 comparisons.

    @5 Cell isn’t that good! XD

    Yeah, this guy really needs to learn when to shut up. Nothing what he says is even remotely right.

    That other MS dude..mehdi or something is full of shit too. I remember a recent article where he spoke negative about Sony’s two new IP’s and actually claimed their new XBLA IPs were something special and comparing it to things like The Last of Us and Beyond Two Souls.

    I remember when Harrison said that rumble was “a last gen technology” during Sony’s lawsuit period. I’m not sure he was the best investment for MS.
