Tex Murphy “Project Fedora” Kickstarter a success, additional story secured

The Tex Murphy Kickstarter venture, codenamed “Project Fedora”, has successfully surpassed its $450,000 goal, ensuring the game’s creation.

At time of writing, the amount pledged sits at $506,450, with 5,698 project backers.

In surpassing $495,000, the project has reached its first stretch goal, which promised an additional story including puzzles, gameplay, locations and characters.

With five days left until the campaign comes to close, the project still has two further stretch goals to potentially exceed. At $540,000, the game will be ported to additional platforms, more recognisable actors will be feature, and text translations will be created for French, Italian, German and Spanish. Another expansion of the story is promised if the project exceeds $585,000, along with an in-game golf game, and Live Orchestra for the game’s music.

Chris Jones, the series’ original creator, produced the following video to thank backers for their support.

Thanks, Destructoid.

This is fantastic news. The Tex Murphy games were always some of my favourite games. And for those who haven’t played them? Well… you’re missing out on a very, very important part of gaming history, it exemplified what bridged the gap between what point & click adventures were then, and what adventure games are today.

Even moreso than Grim Fandango. What these guys were doing was trendsetting, and it was way, way ahead of its time.

Just pick up the older titles off GoG. Overseer especially. It’s easy to understand why I have so much faith in it once you’ve played the older titles.
