Ps3 is still first place. It has the best exclusives, you just can’t put the wii on ps3′s level. And the ps3 has averaged more sales than xbox 360, cause of the 1 year head start. Ps3 is still the more popular brand, only held back buy the huge price difference between the two, , due to blu ray hiccups, and cell processor costs. Ps3 would have sold millions more had everything worked smoothly from the beginning instead of having to compete with a much cheaper xbox. The difference with next gen is that there won’t be a big gap in release dates and won’t have the same launch price, because of development costs being much cheaper.

I love how Sony is rolling up impressive games towards the end of its lifecycle. But Microsoft had indeed the better position this gen by launching first, so most third party developers started their gamedevelopement and engines for the Microsoft platform, didn’t they?!

PS3 is in third place, full stop. Market share, Install base, financials, software sales. All relevant metrics have it in third place.

Can we stop talking about the what if’s of Sony? It’s just not progressive at all. We can talk about all the what if’s of all 3 consoles but in the end where here and now.

Sony is delivering phenomenal game’s late in it’s shelf life. They are still showing of that there is plenty of life left in the system for a good 3-4 years. Granted that 3rd party developers are on board.

I think the number one to really think about is what will usher us into the next gen? The same ole stuff from the start of this gen. Or, the things this gen has come to differentiate itself from others at.

I want to see 3rd party games more dynamic like how the last of us is showing. I want to see more intensity being groomed into games going into next gen. That way when we have the technology to boost even more solid performance we can see amazingly in-depth and beautiful games.

We can go on dissing the companies or we can just wallow in the awesomeness of gaming where we are and will go.

No, not the one from Jack about bringing the best hardware to market – price be damned, that too has legs.

But instead the one in the threads, amazing how many MS fans are are experts on Sony. And vica versa. DaMan, calling it like it is man, your trolling. Plan as. You have been doing it for a while now and it is getting worse. You take great joy is argueing(not chating or descusing) just outright agruing with people that like something you don’t. And not just one or two posts. You go on and on about it, throwing hooks, hoping to snag something, someone so you can keep going.

And Gek? Man don’t jump on that hook everytime he casts it. Ignore him.

But in the end, oh well. Arguing is prolly the biggest reason some folks come to web sites like this one. the problem I have with it is that it derails thread after thread. And to tell the truth most people don’t care about you guys, or me, or any other posters personality. They just want to read the articles, and sometimes engage others and read others thoughts on the subject at hand.

Like for example, on the actual article, I think Jack is a little off. I think there needs to be a better balance between price point and quality. I think Sonys recent systems have been tech wonders, but I think high prices have held them back. Not held them back from making great games, but the price keeps those games out of gamers hands.

Not so much with PS3 today, but when it launched. And if a system does burst out the gate at launch and sell alot of units, pubs won’t see the value of making that system a priority. Clealry the Vita risks that, esp when the 3DS sells so well.

I hope Sony would learn a bit from the past gen and try to strike a better balance between hardware tech and price point. Looking at almost any generation of hardware, we can see that it isn’t the best tech that sells the most units.

Agree or not, like it or not, that is what these threads are for. Decusion on the topics at hand. Not attacking peoples character. Not chasing them article to article. Not being a shit just for the sake of it.

RE Sony: Solely based on the conferences, the PS3 will definitely end up being my go to console for single player experiences this year. Sony has some great stuff lined up.

Man, I remember when Microsoft had really solid line-ups every year, with tonnes of high quality exclusives. Its been years since that’s been the case, sadly.

Sorry Gazdooks,ps3 is ahead of xbox360 in sales lead. You have to take in consideration launch date! ps3 is the best console. The best exclusives and the most recognised/popular worldwide. Only ps3 can sell that many units being 1 year late to the party and being that expensive. There is no way xbox or nintendo can do what sony did in that position. By the time this gen ends, ps3 owners can be pleased knowing they got the best of the bunch and every cent worth it. Come next Gen, you can expect ps4 to reign. And wii u cannot be in the same class as ps4 or xbox^3, because its gonna be atleast 150 cheaper than both consoles.

Back to article, I really do hope Sony take a much more open approach to next gen, proprietary shit like the Vita’s memory cards are real deal breakers. It would not have been as big of an issue if they included at least 16GB of built in storage, then perhaps people would not consider it overpriced.

I didn’t say PS3 sucks, I stated where it is this gen which is BY MEASURABLE METRICS in last place. Not by much but there it is.

We all have favourites. Play what you like and enjoy it, but facts are facts and not subject to preferences.

@87, It is subjective which metrics you use & if they are even considered a standard. For example, the PS3 has sold less consoles to date, but it has sold more during the same period since their respected launch, does it matter to us? No, so why debate it? No comparisons had even been made until you started.

I am really hoping Sony do take their time with the next console and get it spot on next gen. They had a shaky start but the ps3 has provided the best quality gaming console this gen hands down. I bought one on launch day for £450 and its been worth every penny. We would all like things a bit cheaper but I’m not the sort that wants to sacrifice quality to achieve that…

This is what Sony NEEDS to be striving for Jacky boy. Why does it sound like you’re dismissing this fact like it wont happen? An expensive machine isn’t a deal breaker for me, but at least have the best piece of tech that ships first! If the PS3 came out before the 360 and was $100 cheaper at launch Microsoft’s game division wouldn’t exist today. Sony have all the exclusives and games I want to play, but so help me if Microsoft comes out with a next gen console first that has comparable specs to the PS4, Im jumping ship. I’m on the jonse for some next gen tech badly!

-The PS3 came out a year after the 360.
-Since its release, its been selling better than the 360 nearly every year globally.
-The 360 sold 6 million before the PS3 was released, that gap is now at 2 million.

So anyway, now that the actual console sales figures have been blown away, you move onto market share Vs. last gen. Yet to my knowledge none of the current gen consoles have managed to sell more than the PS2, i dont think any of them are even close or ever will at this point (Wii was just under 100 million lacking the extra 50 million, but now Nintendo has dropped the system, the people who buy it will no doubt do the same).

…So what exactly is your point here? that Sony didnt dominate the market, therefore they failed? Why should Sony have to live up to a higher standard than anyone else? Because it gives you ammunition for your hate rampage? Oh, right.
