Watch Dogs announced as new IP from Ubisoft

Yves Guillemot took the stage at Ubis’s E3 press event to announce the new IP Watch Dogs, which the third-person shooter in the works at Ubisoft Montreal for the last two years.

It takes place in the summer of 2003, where during a blackout in New York a disgusted employee unleashed a virus on the city.

Because of this, the city is now controlled by a computer controlled by a major corporation. The computer knows all your actions, thoughts, etc and links everything you do to the system. All data is interconnected.

Players can control an entire surveillance system in the game, and use the computer system as a weapon once hacked.

The E3 trailer and the stage demo are posted below. There are three screens too.

Link? I have been trying to get to the site but its exploded. The game won’t look this pretty then unless you are using 690 or crossfire or sli GPU of of this past year or so.

Fuck it, this game gets my money, the main character can walk around with the hands in his jacket. Instant win.

Not really a fan of the shooting, looks a little bit too lose. Would’ve loved to see the main character fight his way differently out of the situation.

Thanks man. I can’t imagine the hardware we would need to run this on the PC to make it look like it does at E3. Well I am glad I don’t have to wait until I get next gen console to play this.

this is definitely a Next Gen game!
i’m watching the video again and inspecting all graphical aspect and many things CANNOT be achieve in 7th gen game, not even big engine like CryEngine 3!

also who remembers the Rainbow 6 Patriot trailer?
that game looked good but that doesn’t even look like a 7th gen title!
My guess is that it’s gonna be a 8th gen title

@58 The game is not *that* impressive looking. I’m really not sure why everyone is going gaga over the graphics. I mean, it’s solid, but it isn’t breaking any ground.

It’s high end PC, sure, but this is not a “next gen game”. It’ll be appearing on all current hardware.

Ubisoft already confirmed its on current gen. I thought the same thing but they are running it on PC and I would assume on newest cards by Nvidia or AMD and we don’t know the actual specs of that PC they used, it will not look like that on the console versions but as long as the gameplay is there I can care less.

Yeah, people… this game is very possible on the current generation of consoles. There are no dynamic reflections, and there is a ton of bump mapping and excellent use of light culling.

If I didn’t know any better, I would think that this game is using the Frostbite 2 engine. XD

Yeah, it’s looking good but I don’t see anything that can’t be done on current-gen. It’s looking like an enhance version of the Anvil engine.

@58: CryEngine3 can do even better than that!

i do not like the artdesign here…not a t all. boring and uninspired. too much realism bores the shit out of me in games. gameplay looks interesting. not blown away by this. waitnsee.

Wow, really REALLY in love with this game. Also, it felt like running on PC. There’s no way a 3rd party game would look that good on PS3 and 360.

Bro, how do you know it?

And no, I think this looks current-gen. The faces in the club for sure.

This is probably PC footage to impress people but console version would miss some effect, lower texture…
Battlefield 3 syndrome :)

Yeah but that’s kinda a shame. look at that video, i don’t want to think of the things they have to tone down and simply remove because 360/PS3 can’t handle it anymore.

I say….start making it for the new consoles Ubi, release it as a launch title, that would be so great. I want the game to look exactly like this on new consoles…not some severely lesser game in terms of visuals. Damn…don’t they have MS and Sony’s next hardware to develop for yet then?

@69 He’s a Wizard! Durp.

@66 Yeah, there is a link on the other page that shows that it will be coming to 360, PS3, and PC. I’ll be getting it for PC (to avoid the so called BF3 syndrome) if it doesn’t have DRM… if it does… I’ll suck it up and get the PS3 version.

This is the first time I’ve seen this. Amazing. Now I’m off to watch Last of Us. Damn I’ve missed some crazy stuff.
