UFC license acquired by EA Sports
President Dana White took the stage at EA’s E3 2012 press conference to announce the transition of UFC’s license form THQ to EA Sports. “This is a great day for EA Sports but also a great day for fight fans,” he said. EA has signed a multi-games, multi-year exclusivity deal with UFC. THQ parted with the license for an undisclosed cash sum.

And its an absolute crap day to be THQ.
They better have gotten a ton of money for the sale of this license. It was a guaranteed money printing machine.

@2 Each licensing deal has a term limit. Maybe they couldn’t afford to renew?
The more popular UFC gets, the more they get for their TV rights and ultimately their license.
If EA wanted THQs properties, they could buy them without breaking a sweat. THQ is worth less than a tenth of what they paid for Popcap.

@3: As I suspected – THQ sold it. I expect Dana was not pleased – he’s been quoted as hating EA in the past.

It’s also disappointing as UFC was apparently very good under THQ – no doubt EA will run it into the ground, like MMA as some people suspect.

@4 Oh, that’s weird!
Next to Volition and Vigil, I reckon MMA was the only thing making money for them.
As someone who loved the Fight Night series I have no doubt that EA are gonna fuck this up quite royally.
Then again that happens to most of their sports franchises every few years or so.
