Nikkei: New 3DS model to be announced tomorrow, Wii U to be priced £250

Monday, 4th June 2012 19:31 GMT By Johnny Cullen

A new and larger 3DS model is set to be announced tomorrow at the Nintendo press conference, Nikkei‘s reporting.

The revised SKU will feature a 4:3 screen, 1.5 times bigger than the screen on the vanilla 3DS. It’s also likely the new revision will have a second stick as standard rather than use the Circle Pad add-on.

It’s set to launch in Japan, Europe and the US this summer, according to the Japanese newspaper.

Nikkei’s also reporting that the Japanese price of Wii U will be set at ¥30,000 (£250/$380). It was previously thought that Nintendo wouldn’t announce dating and pricing details at tomorrow’s E3 presser.

Nintendo’s E3 press conference takes place tomorrow from 5pm BST (9am PST/12pm EST/6pm CET).

380usd is a bit high for a WiiU. Was hoping for 250ish. Guess its best to wait and see what happens.

I think what’s happening here is people are getting all bewildered since the wii had a such a cheap launch price, for what was actully last gen tech. This time it’s superior to the 360 and ps3 and yet is still launching at a much lesser price than those two lauched at.

Next gen xbox and playstations will be announced next year with another year odd of waiting, so for now this is pretty good.

It will probably be 380 only in Japan. US and rest of the world will get 300 to 350 which still is too high for what is essentially a current gen system in terms of horse power.

i am with og here. was hoping for 250, 300 max…but will prolly buy one anyway. on the other hand i will probably be busy with halo 4 and the huge amount of multiplat and ps3 exclusives of this fall/ winter…so maybe i wont even buy a wiiu day one and just wait for the first price drop. if i learned one thing in gaming: it almost never pays out to be an early bird.

    oh Wii U is priced @ £250
ok that’s not bad, same similar price when ps3 had it’s price slashed.
    that is VERY reasonable enough.

It should’ve been £220 max. The Wii was £180.

Patience is a virtue. Good thing I waited for a 3DS-lite version… Now I just need some more games and I can get one! :p

Er, the 4:3 Screen is supposed to be the lower touchscreen, right? Everything else wouldn’t make sense.

I’ve always liked this 3DS redesign mock up but I just can’t see this happening.
