We Sing publisher snaps up GAME Scandinavia

Publisher Nordic Games has acquired the Scandinavian arm of struggling international retailer GAME.

GamesIndustry reports Nordic games founder Lars Wingefors will serve as the managing director of the newly-acquired chain, which will retain the GAME name under license from the GAME Group.

There are 44 GAME shops in Sweden and 11 in Norway, with 270 staff.

Wingefors said he sees "great potential" in the retailer, which is estimated to have seen around $62.1 million turnover during 2011.

"With a whole new strategy, the stores AAA-locations, loyal customers, positive suppliers and, most important, competent employees, we are determined to get GAME back to profitability. To be the underdog, in a time when many are negative to retail in general, makes it an even more exciting challenge," he said.

It's a major step for the small publisher, which boasts just 80 employees.
