Rumour: Sony close to “cloud gaming firm” buyout

Crikey, they’re really going all-in on this cloud thingy, aren’t they.

Ohhhhhhhhh, initial rumours were of a partnership but this talks of an agreed (almost) acquisition – thats a different league altogether.

This is how Remote Play could possibly work for Vita – where you stream the PS3 game from server not from your actual PS3 and also allows the PS4 to have full backward compatability of PS3 games via streaming (if the rumoured specs of PS4 were true it would be almost imposible to have backward compatibility.

I’m putting money on OnLive. I remember reading that the guy who founded it basically makes a living off building up companies and selling them on.

This could be HUGE.

Correct me if im wrong but isnt Gaikai just game demos through a browser?? while that impressive, Having the full game being able to instantly stream is a MAJOR plus for sony come next gen.Maybe even this gen?

OnLive has a cheap microconsole. It would be interesting to see a micro-Playstation. Something less than $100 that could run PS3 and PC games.

Of course this is more than likely about Gaikai but there is still a small chance that Sony might go for Onlive.

Hoping we are talking about OnLive. Just like Gama, gaikai would be Meh, at best I think.

I thought if this stuff worked well then it would be a case of MS or Sony buying them up to get the tech. Figured it would be a little further down the line though – still a bit unproven as a global solution. Interesting though.

I hope it’s OnLive, I would love to see that get some real progress going (hopefully Sony aren’t retards with it though)

Iam only interested if its OnLive, and only interested if it has access to PC games, i really want to try games like Dear Esther, Diablo I and II, and Grim Fandango,etc; If its onlive, but is just only for sony games, then Meh

Onlive doesn’t have those games nor will they ever so you are hoping for much.

#10 Jeez Too bad, well i was hoping for something like that, because i would love the chance to play good PC games that i have miss over the years on a console, either way thanks for the clarification, but like i said if its only for sony games that are available on physical media, then meh, but dont get me wrong is nice to have the option, the thing is that is not for me then.

Onlive has gone to these publishers and developers. Dear Ester is exclusive to steam and as is Blizzard to Bnet. ALso EA, Rockstar, Activision do not want a part of it either. Its why Onlive catalog is crappy it only offers THQ games and some of Ubisofts game.

Either way, I know Uk internet speeds are not ready for cloud gaming. Though we are suppose to get 4G next year which works great with onlive.

Just like I said. There was absolutely no point in Sony doing a collaboration with OnLive. Only a complete buyout would make business sense here.

Yeah the game that doesn’t sell well is it on it same with Mafia. But do you see Max Payne 3, GTA4 on their catalog you know Rockstar’s big hitters?

But if sony completely aquires onlive wont they be able to put the games they have licensed for playstation onto it??

I don’t think its Onlive when at GDC they were talking about having exclusive rights to their own game and releasing their own SDK for developers.

I remember someone from Onlive saying the big news at this years E3 will be that one of the big 3 wont be releasing a new console…..
