Hitman Absolution E3 trailer has nuns with guns

Wednesday, 30 May 2012 13:00 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Square Enix has released the E3 trailer for Hitman Absolution, featuring an attempted hit on 47 and a group of assassins dressed as nuns. We’re not joking.

After a tease yesterday, Square Enix has unveiled Hitman Absolution’s E3 trailer ahead of a massive showing at the event next week.

The clip shows Agent 47 under attack at a motel from a wetworks team dressed as nuns, sent by 47′s old agency the ICA. They’re apparently called “The Saints”.

The video was made by CG studio Visual Works, who made the infamous Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Tomb Raider CG trailers, under the direction of developer IO Interactive.

Watch the trailer above. Hitman Absolution launches on November 20 worldwide for PS3, 360 and PC.

Man i love Hitman and i really liked the trailer but … sexy nuns? Really? How stupid is that? And yeah, you know, the over-sexualization and all that.

    #2 3 years ago
  3. Colin Gallacher

Great trailer. Looking forward to seeing more gameplay at E3, still think the November release date is bit if a gamble.

    #3 3 years ago
  4. The_Red

Hell fucking YES. No multiplayer. Thank nuns indeed. Now, let’s kill some nuns via Agent 47.

    #4 3 years ago
  5. Moonwalker1982

Lovely ladies, but it was hard to take serious (when Hitman is a rather serious game) but i can’t hate, this trailer is nuts!!!

    #5 3 years ago
  6. TD_Monstrous69

Seeing this made me doubly glad that I reserved this last week (it also made me think, man those are some sexy ass nuns). Also, glad that this turned out not to be a trailer for multiplayer coming to Hitman: Absolution. Though if I’m not mistaken, didn’t lo interactive already say that multiplayer was coming to Hitman: Absolution back when this was announced at last year’s E3, or am I mistaken?

    #6 3 years ago
  7. The_Red

    What’s wrong with sexy nuns?

    #7 3 years ago
  8. Talkar

It has everything a good trailer needs to have: Blood, guns, explosions, sexy characters.

    #8 3 years ago
  9. Moonwalker1982

And 47 handles this situation like a fucking boss!!! :)

    #9 3 years ago
  10. YoungZer0

@7: Nothing wrong with sexy nuns. Everything wrong with sexy assassin nuns. Doesn’t make sense, is useless over-sexualization and it looks stupid. I might buy it, if 47 is in some kind of strip joint and they would use it as a disguise, but he isn’t, so why are they looking like strippers?

Just imagine that they have to go into a shop, order specifically-made latex suit and ridiculously high high-heels that serve no purpose but hinder them from properly running and evading.

    Stupid. Just stupid.

    #10 3 years ago
  11. TheBlackHole

    @10 Totally agree.

Also, what a waste on 47′s part. No forward thinking :)

    #11 3 years ago
  12. StolenGlory

IO Interactive continue to affirm my suspicion that they have no earthly clue why people loved the series in the first place.

    #12 3 years ago
  13. Moonwalker1982

Let’s not take it overboard now. Apart from the instinct mode, which can be disabled, they’ve shown us some great things. This is the first time it’s hard to take something serious about Hitman: Absolution, i sure do hope there’s a good explanation for this ‘weird, but sexy’ trailer. I just hope for a solid, adult and dark story that makes sense.

    #13 3 years ago
  14. Hunam

The way you guys go on is almost like the whole heaven and hell club level from Blood Money never happened.

  17. Dark

    Well said.

    #17 3 years ago
  18. YoungZer0

@14: It did happen and it wasn’t nice either. But at least it fit the location. It’s more believable. This however? What do they gain from dressing like this?

    #18 3 years ago
  19. Peetry

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Why can’t they just make a good, believable assassin game. I want: walk through snowy Moscow, find perfect sniping position and plan escape. Shoot target at carefully chosen opportune moment, walk calmly away. If alarm raised, trigger diversion/ improvise new escape route etc. Only kill non assassination targets if absolutely unavoidable. I do not want sexy nun assassins, I do not want Agent 47 to participate in any kung foo.

I realise that this is just a trailer, but as a long time fan I’m annoyed that this is how they want to show the game.

    #19 3 years ago
  20. Erthazus

Sexy nuns is from some anime that i can’t remember. Sexy nuns are ok, but for Hitman setting that is just stupid.

    #20 3 years ago
  21. StolenGlory

Or maybe it was from this:

Either way, you could have replaced Agent 47 with Danny Trejo in that trailer and it wouldn’t have been any different.

    #21 3 years ago

That’s some highly offensive sexism plastered all over this website, right there!

    #22 3 years ago
  23. DreamCleaver

Trailer reminded me of the anime Black Lagoon.

And I agree, it doesn’t fit the Hitman setting. Seems to be some sort of fan-service. I’m not sure we will actually encounter the nuns in-game, but if we do, I’ll never go at it that way. Seems too risky and impulsive.

    #23 3 years ago
  24. Ireland Michael

It’s it’s own context it’s funny. As part of Hitman, it just seems completely out of place, as a franchise that usually plays it completely straight.

  25. Telepathic.Geometry

Does it make a lick of sense? No.

    Was it fucking awesomecakes? YES!!!

    #25 3 years ago
  26. lkm

wow this site full of retards, i mean you want to kill only drug dealers and murders in hitman? this assassins is a good chance, and probably in game they gonna give a lot of trouble, plus they have a style they looks like a mad assassins that ready to kick your ass in a brutal way, or you just want cups in armor start shooting you like in the previous game.

    #26 3 years ago
  27. Gama_888

Theres no context here. For all we know it could be completely relevant.

I thought it was an awesome trailer.
Despite whatever the game is actually like the trailer was always going to have lotsa shit blowing up, and half naked women shooting people.
Because thats just how trailers go.

And to prove my point you can read the comment below and try tell me its not a successful trailer :)

I read all of the above comments with great interest (I also had no idea what 88 represented other than a poker hand), especially after reading an online article called What The Hell Is With That Hitman Trailer? It was written by a woman who said “it fetishizes the violence and sexualises the women.” Mind you, she did go on a bit and 400 people said she was ‘uptight’, but hey! I just figured the comments were mostly written by young blokes.

But chicks with guns? What’s not to like. Who cares if they’re dressed either slutty or nice? I thought that was juxtaposition. No matter how you try and dress this thing up – no pun intended – chicks with guns shifts products because everybody is talking about it. You can’t buy better publicity than that. I had to watch it again. Purely in the course of research I’ll have you know, but I think it’s nothing but clever marketing. This advert is doing its job very well indeed.
