Arma III trailer shows off impressive lighting tech

Bohemia’s released a brand new video of Arma III, showing off some pretty cool tech ahead of an E3 showing next week.

The video shows off some of the cool lighting tech spotted within the shooter. Aspects include the day-and-night cycle, underwater scenarios and more.

Bohemia’s also released a Q&A on the tech, noting as an example that it was “working on fine-tuning the multiplayer situation, where, for example, one side might be considerably affected by attacking/defending against the Sun.”

Get the video below, via RPS. Arma III is expected to launch later this year.

On the bigger BF3 maps sun plays a considerable role, especially in Rush mode (like the uphill battle against the sun towards the last base on Caspian Border).

I’ll look at this a couple of years after it launches, when all the game-breaking bugs are ironed out. Well, most anyway.

Yeah, it really gives me a bad feeling.

It’s not hard to make a game that looks good. It’s hard to make a game that looks good, and runs good at the same time. Bohemia never cracked that code.

I really don’t understand their priorities. There’s no expectation for a serious wargame to look good. There is a high expectation of a serious wargame functioning and simulating as many aspects of warfare as possible.

They really shouldn’t be showing us graphical porn, they should be showing us units that are actually capable of working together and maybe even accomplishing a few tactical maneuvers without bumbling around every 2 seconds.

Instead they’re adding physics engines and glare. Great.

Did anyone else notice the massive amount of screen tearing?
