The War is Over: Secret World social game closes, launches AR puzzle

The Secret War, a Facebook-powered social game promoting upcoming MMORPG The Secret World, has completed its five week run, but participants still have plenty to keep them busy.

The Secret War pit members of the three factions against each other in a battle for domination of the globe. Those who earned 650 points – or more – were rewarded with access to upcoming closed betas, with various milestones offering in-game items and equipment.

The game is now closed, but each secret society has been given a video directing them to a dedicated mini-site, where a series of clues need unraveling. So go forth and unravel.

This is just the latest of a number of AR puzzles Funcom has launched throughout the MMORPG’s development, helping to establish a committed community well ahead of its release. Some of the puzzles have been quite fiendish, and reflect the kind of research and problem solving skills players will have to draw on in the game itself – although you can always cop out and consult a wiki.

The Secret World launches in June. VG247′s faction of choice is Templars. Just sayin’.

I didn’t play a huge amount of the Secret World beta, what I did play though I though was kinda crappy. Maybe I didn’t play enough but for now I’m staying clear of it.

I agree, I think I’ll still get it and play it as a single player title just because its been ages since I’ve seen anything by Ragnar but I just don’t really get it all that much.

To me its a really interesting idea welded onto a system thats not suited to exploit that idea fully.
