First Yakuza 5 screens released

SEGA has released the first screenshots of Yakuza 5 via the official website showing off the game’s five-strong playable cast in action.

The newly-opened official website contains a bunch of screenshots – mostly of angry-looking old men – but Yakuza 5 has a twist in the playable status of Haruka, series lead Kazuma Kiryu’s adopted daughter. Also playable are Kiryu himself, Taiga Saejima, Shun Akiyama and Tatsuo Shinada.

There’s also a few images of the game’s locations, which include areas of cities including Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo. Famitsu revealed that the game will pick up where Yakuza 4 left off with Kiryu living a quiet life in Fukuoka as a taxi driver earlier this week.

The game’ll release in Japan in December this year. A Western release is currently unannounced, but Yakuza 3, 4 and Yakuza: Dead Souls, a non-canon post-apocalyptic spin-off, all made it West.

Thanks, Andriasang.

It is also said that the game finally has a new engine, that was much needed too. This MUST come to the west.

Not sure about this. Looks exactly like the previous Yakuza Games.

Completely excited for this. Yakuza is probably one of the best series out there. That said, with Sega firing most, if not all, of their localization staff, I’m not sure if we’ll see this in the West. That does break my heart, but it’s probably the truth.

Still, no reason why we can’t bother Sega about it.

@ 2

That’s the thing, nothing has been said about a western release yet.

Sega did that? Why? I guess Yakuza 3 and 4 didn’t sell enough?
